Man, I am completely with you on this. No dice? NO DICE.

The random element doesn't just add the possibility of failure; it adds an element of surprise. Even the kind of WILD UNEXPECTED SUCCESS from rolling a 20 on something as mundane as a spot check can lead to a session that's memorable for years to come.

Sitting around talking? Not quite the same thrill. (But if the snacks are awesome, it beats internet RP hands down.)

I feel that. I have no interest in WOW or other computer games but I love the heck out of Saturdays spent with Mountain Dew and baby carrots.

One of the fun things about dice rolls, to me, is how they can expand your character. Like if you make a knowledge roll by 1 it's "you remember your grandmother telling you a story about this many years ago and you can only remember X" or if you make the roll by your stats alone and then roll a 19 or something it's "Oddly enough you went to a seminar on this very subject just last week..." Or if we fumble a perception roll we were checking out another player's character which can kick off a weird romance plot. Or string of successes make the character feel more arrogant and start acting bossy.

BSing about dice is fun.
