Ramsay's a handsome shark.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-23 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I know that feel, OP. Too bad the GoT fandom is so rife with kink shaming.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-24 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Really? But I thought the kinkmeme was full of Ramsay/Theon OK so maybe that was because I was looking for it but still.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-24 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
nayrt

It is but you still get a lot of flack for it

(Anonymous) 2013-05-24 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
It's pretty popular over there, but the fandom still jumps on anyone who openly ships it (which is laughable considering that there's barely any non-problematic ships in GoT). The kink meme is probably the only safe haven for people who like Thramsay.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-24 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
I've never seen anyone "kinkshame" Ramsay/Theon shippers. They shame them for predictably going apeshit over the pairing for no other reason than the fact that they are two under-30 white guys who share more than 2 minutes of screentime.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-24 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
No, they shame them because they're shipping a pairing that's full of canon rape and abuse. Most who ship it are aware that it's purely D/s non-con and problematic and never try to play it off as romantic. However, a lot of the fandom misinterprets that as supporting or fetishizing rape and therefore bring out the kink shaming. I've seen a lot of that on Tumblr.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-24 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Well, let's not pretend there isn't a lot of woobifying and glamorizing the pairing to make it more ~sexy 50 Shades fuzzy handcuffs~ and less nasty and brutal, but I see what you mean. And I still feel like most people would not ship it if Ramsay were a) old or b) not white.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-24 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
You ever been to the kinkmeme? It's all completely dirty and hardcore fic when it comes to these two. The only woobifying is of Theon and that's understandable in this case. And people were shipping it even when Ramsay was described as fat and hideous in the books, so who knows. I think anyone who goes for the kind of dynamic between Ramsay and Theon would latch onto it no matter what they looked like.

Um except the OP clearly states she(presumably) is sexually aroused and gets herself off on the rape and torture presented onscreen because Iwan is hot.

How is that NOT fetishizing something problematic?

None of this secret is about shipping the dynamic or pairing as a really interesting psychological study. This isn't about the level-headed fans of Theon/Ramsay that don't fetishize it. This isn't even about Theon/Ramsay shippers as a whole. I personally don't understand it but if people are aware of the problems and are just fascinated by the pairing/characters/dynamic, that's fine. There is nothing inherently wrong with exploring such dark themes.

However this secret is explicitly about being aroused by/masturbating to the onscreen portrayal torture, rape, and genital mutilation.

And that is not cool in my humble opinion.

Yes. How dare us delicate Puritans express discontent over fellow fans jerking off to a person being beaten, mutilated, raped, covered in shit, genitally disfigured, psychologically broken, and brutally tortured by a sadistic, disgusting psychopath who hunts women for sport and rapes them before flaying them alive. Because oh god, it's just so HOT, Iwan is so dreamy! What a harmless "kink". Shame on us, indeed.

And your comeback will surely be "A-HA! This is exactly my point! Over-sensitive crazy kinkshamer. I'm not hurting anyone, it's only fiction!" You're literally getting off on that imagery? Yeah sorry not sorry for kinkshaming this one. The fact you are actually getting sexual gratification while such grotesque human suffering (fictional or not) is being portrayed in front of you is never going to be ok to me and I will shame it as I please. I do not care if that annoys you because you bother me too.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-24 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
You can like something or be aroused by something in fiction without condoning or supporting it irl, you know. You're way too uptight about a few fangirls fapping to abusive fiction, especially since it doesn't affect you in any way and you don't have to read/look at it. Thramsay shippers are not going out of their way to offend you by enjoying their ship within their circle, you can show them the same courtesy by not going into their space and being judgmental. Learn to YKINMK.

TBH, I really dislike "Thramsay", but as long as their fen are over there doing their own thing (where I can make reasonable efforts to avoid it like the side-eyed plague), fair enough. It's the ones who post cutesy Thramsay art and fic in general spaces in the belief that they're edgy and subversive that need a smack upside the head.

I guess in their imaginations fandom is divided into them(super cool and shocking) and the rest of us (Helen Lovejoys, all)?

Yeah, you stick it to the fanfic man, with your genre-blind young white m/m h/c. We're all having the vapours at your superior ability to separate fact from fiction or whateverthefuck.

but none of them really do that?? whenever I see Ramsay/Theon art x-posted on places like ONTD, it's usually by someone else mocking it. the pairing gets so much disdain by the fanbase that they usually just keep to themselves.

also lol at all the attempted race wank going on itt. I can understand applying that to slash ships that have zero basis besides two hot white guys being in the same series like Clint/Coulson, but Ramsay/Theon is practically canon, albeit in an extremely dysfunctional way.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-24 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I think what bothers me about them is less that they get off to torture, but that a lot of them -think- they're into hardcore sadism kink, when I suspect it's really just because Iwan Rheon is cute. If he were a ugly, nasty, grizzly old man, I would at least be kinda impressed with them for being that kinky.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-24 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
I thought I was going to hate Ramsay's guts, and I really should, but I don't. Those scenes don't do THAT much for me, but I definitely understand how they might for some.

I don't see how anyone could be scared of -or- turned on by the Theon/Ramsay scenes. They're so badly written, horribly executed, and badly acted.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-24 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
>Implying Iwan and Alfie aren't two of the better young actors on the show

I'll take them over Robb, Jon, and Dany's atrocious acting any day.

Different strokes, I guess. I can tolerate everyone except Iwan Rheon. They might as well give him a black mustache to twirl and call it a day. TBF, it's a more demanding role than Robb's or Jon's—all they have to do is brood and constantly look put-upon.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-24 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. They're just fucking terrible on every single level.

Personally I find them both decent enough actors but don't get the fact people are turned on because I am not seeing any of the hotness people are seeing in either of them. I wouldn't use the word ugly but it's the closest I've got...

(Anonymous) 2013-05-24 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeahhhhh, I wouldn't go so far as to call either of them ugly, but I don't find either of them attractive. Then again, I don't find any of the men on GoT to be my type, so unless I love-love (instead of love-to-hate) the character, I find them mostly unappealing.

So naturally, I finally find Jaime sexy, because he's getting to the point on the show where I started to love him in the books, lol. And I'm embarrassed to admit that I find Daario pretty hot, even though I think he looks utterly ridiculous (and not in the ridiculous way he was described in the book, to my epic disappointment).

(Anonymous) 2013-05-25 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved him when he was in misfits and really enjoyed the first bit of the scenes too...until the flaying of the finger. Now i have to close my eyes and hum while it's on until my fiancé taps me, really freaks me out and makes me feel all cold :( It's actually starting to put me off GOT which i hate because i love the series so much. Plus i have the books on kindle and don't dare to read them because it's often worse in books.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-26 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Late reply, I don't know if you're tracking this thread and if you'll see this, but the torture scenes happen completely offscreen in the books.
