I love how AD fans are posting their usual shit on here about how if you don't appreciate the show now, it's because you don't ~understand it yet. AD is far from the first show to use throwbacks or foreshadowing in terms of jokes and while watching it, I pretty much predicted the gags that were gonna happen. It's not that clever.

I also would like to include Firefly in that list, OP. And Community fans are probably the most annoying among the bunch because the show is still going on. I wish NBC would just put it out of its misery already because even the actors were already anticipating its cancellation and the show's gotten worse, anyway.

Also, with Craig Ferguson there's just the usual elitism. I know with every Tonight Show-related discussion, there's always some genius who jumps in yelling "BAH THEY ALL SUCK. CRAIG FERGUSON IS THE ONLY GOOD HOST" and apparently it's because he's ~subversive and meta about how 'bad' his show is. First off, pretty much every show host makes fun of their own show so he's not unique in that regard. Second, people like to overanalyze Ferguson's humor: I had to read an entire essay on how genius it is that Ferguson has a robot sidekick to "represent that real sidekicks on shows are just robots who agree with everything the host says" (that was essentially the gist of it) and I just thought... Fuck no, man, it's just a fucking robot. Craig Ferguson doesn't think about it as much as you do. (I still like Ferguson's show, though, so don't jump on me, fans)

I always thought Craig had Geoff because he thought it would br REALLY COOL to have a robot skeleton sidekick and then, OMG, Grant Imihara GAVE HIM ONE and that was pretty much the entire extent of the thought process.

I mean, I really like Craig, and he is certainly my favorite late-night douchebag -- but that's largely because of his unabashed silliness. I had no idea there were fans of his who had become obnoxious about it.

But... Craig has said/joked (in a way I can't tell if he's being serious or not) about how he got Geoff to be subversive to the sidekick trope, he just also really, really loves Ghost Rider. That's why Geoff started out with canned phrases that just changed every night to be slightly topical at first. He and whatever the name of the dude who voices Geoff got along so well and loved it so much that he became an actual sidekick.

Also, you "had" to read this essay? Who was pointing the gun at your head, because I dunno who lied to you, but guns don't work through internet connections.

Thank you for proving my point. There's no rhyme or reason to it and that's why Craig does it -- it's funny. And thank you for proving the OP's point: that Craig Ferguson's fans are snide as fuck.

Ha. Except as I just said up there, there was a reason for it, beyond it being funny. Also since Craig has actually SAID that, idek where you're getting this from.

"Initially, I wanted something which represented some kind of deconstructionist contempt for the late-night genre and the idea of a sidekick, but [Josh Thompson] became so good at it, he just became a sidekick."

It doesn't have to be one or the other, and acting like you're superior because you don't want to read into things is quite snide as well.

I don't really think there was a helluva lot of 'if you don't like AD, you don't get it' going on here. Mostly fans explaining why they like it, to folks who seemed to want to know why anyone else enjoyed it. There was hardly a frothy mess of obsessed stanning going on.

And considering the entire show is based around continuity and repetition and foreshadowing- uh, it's perfectly okay if you 'predicted' what was going to happen. They weren't trying to catch anyone off guard. It's not Lost.

I 100% completely agree that we need to live and let live, and stop insisting that everyone like what we like, watch what we watch. But it does get a little irritating when the backlash isn't 'I didn't like it, because it's not my type of humor/genre/show in general' but 'I didn't like it because it's actually very bad'-- NO KIDDING you're going to get people worked up. Have you been to fandom? Heard of it? You're never going to get people to leave you alone about the things you disagree on. In pretty much any walk of life, fandom or otherwise. Just look at fans of rival sports teams. But you don't need to give as good as you get, and piss everyone off. Just... walk away. It's just typing. Close your eyes, if you have to.

Guess I'm just a psycho fan, tho~
