YES PLEASE DO IT. I'm so much for this. I feel like the only adaptations that do not have Irene being in love with Holmes are the literal ones (such as Granada and the Russian Holmes), and even then there are still hints of all sorts.

Writers, stahp. Holmes had no canon love interest, why change his character for the sake of The Rule of Whatever? And why change Irene? If anything, this oversimplifies their relationship.
