Maybe it became about the shipping becasue that's the best thing about the series?

Really, the more I think about Sherlock, the more I realize I enjoy (many of) the characters, but most of the stories don't do a thing for me. I think TGG is the only one where I like the plot itself; the rest I just watch for the characters.

THIS. It's fantastically well-acted but the writing is just horrid. Honestly every time I've rewatched it (which isn't that many times - 3 or 4 times) I can stand the writing and the plots less and less.

Yeah. Most of the time when I do watch, I just ff/skip around to the character interaction stuff...

Oh thank god I'm not the only one who feels this way. I've only just started watching Sherlock since Elementary has finished for the season, and I've read so. many. times. about how much better the writing for Sherlock is and... it's just not? I can't even understand how he even gets to half of the conclusions he does, let alone in the split second it takes him to ~deduce the answer.

Example: I'm in the middle of watching 2x01 and he figured out that the guy by the lake was murdered by a boomerang that hit him at the exact same time that a car backfired, because the killer knew exactly when the car would backfire how? That's some bullshit logic tbh and it's annoying the fuck out of me that I'm supposed to buy it.

Not to mention 'nuff said about the shitty writing for the female characters on the show, it's why I haven't bothered to watch it until now. I've heard about Irene's awful treatment so I'm not really looking forward to seeing that. I have a feeling I'll be rewatching Elementary to see Joan's flawless and constant calling out of Sherlock to ease the pain.

Eh? I thought the guy at the lake was a professional boomerang thrower (or whatever they're called) and that he had thrown the boomerang, was distracted by the car backfiring, turned around and was then hit by the returning boomerang. So there wasn't a killer.

I thought it was easily the most ridiculous "case" anyway.

Ha, maybe. I haven't finished watching it (got 40 minutes left), is it "explained" later or something? Either way it seems super contrived that he just ~happens to throw it at the exact second someone's car backfires. From what I've seen I thought it was implied that he specifically chose that moment because of the backfire, but what do I know.

But also, wasn't the boomerang in the river where the guy was killed? How could he have been hit by it if it was near the person he killed? Idk, but don't tell me if it's a spoiler lol.

If you've watched the scene where Sherlock explains it to Irene (at the end of which he drops onto his bed), then that's all there is to it.

I thought it was basically an accident? Like, the boomerang was coming back to the thrower anyway (after travelling quite a distance, considering he was a professional), but because he was distracted by the car and turned around he couldn't catch the boomerang and it hit him in the neck or sth. And maybe he was standing close to the river and when the boomerang fell down it landed in there?

Ahhh. Honestly, the first time I watched it I was too busy staring at the green screen than actually listening to them. So it was an accident then, he wasn't meant to be hit? I assumed it was nefarious but maybe not? I still haven't finished the episode yet so I haven't heard why that guy was found in the boot so idk.
