(Anonymous) 2013-05-26 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)If you want to dress up like her, fine--but be honest about why. Don't lie about reading the comics, playing the games, etc, and get ready for any shit thrown your way.
As someone who dresses up as *this* version, and loves the games, I personally get pretty annoyed at people dressing up as things they have no real love/association for.
Cosplay is a way for me to show my love of a character/a series/etc--
---not to show my new found confidence off.
If you want to be sexy, find a character that you *like* who is sexy, and dress up like that.
Because yeah, you will be called a fake nerd if you are called out on it. And really, are you not? Any boy or girl who dresses up as a character they know nothing about, for the sake of gaining attention is faking it for *that* attention.
As long as you are okay with that, more power to you.
If you aren't, well, I suggest you go to the beach in a bikini.

I am not asking you to read every comic book she is in, watch the Uma Batman version, check out every animated version of her, play the games she is in but, sheesh, at least be a fan of something she's in. One thing.
Trust me, it makes cosplay so much more fun if you are dressing up as a character that you are actually a fan of rather than just dressing up because you simply like the character design. One is where you are dressing up to feel sexy which, frankly, can be done in any revealing outfit (heck, for some they can feel sexy in a potato sack.), the other is dressing up because for a brief time, you want to feel like that character. Put on a cape and you want to pretend you are Batman rather than just look like the design of Batman.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-26 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)You're not the voice of dissension, you are the voice of a dick. Let her get her toes wet however she wants. You spoiling something for her just makes you look petty and small. Particularly when you brag about dressing up as *this* version. It doesn't make you sound like you're advising but warning her off your so-called turf.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-26 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)She was just suggesting that OP maybe find out a little about the character before she cosplayed as her. I normally dont care, but I can see how some people may be a little annoyed if someone cosplays up as a character they know nothing about.
No need to get so friggen offended. Grow a thicker skin please.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-27 02:11 am (UTC)(link)seriously? fucking cry more. and then get a goddamn life, asswipe
Not a trollpost
So you go to a con. You see somebody dressed as someone from your favorite fandom! Wonderful! You have somebody to go over and talk to! An icebreaker! A chance to make a new friend! That might not be the easiest thing for you but now you've got an in! Here goes... aw dammit. Not even in the fandom! That was misleading!
Judging the emotions of others in this way makes you as contemptible. You are also the wipe of the ass, ya judgmental fuckhead.
Now, what's the difference between you and the other person then? The difference is in actions. Feeling does not equate to action. Somebody who gets annoyed or disappointed can still be polite about it. By the same token, somebody jumping on somebody else for showing a bit of honesty on a board that encourages confession has done an action, which is far more valid for judgement.
I'm sure you can come up with some action of mine that could be judged in negative light. Doesn't mean I'm wrong right now fucko.

And before anyone jumps at me for knowing nothing about cosplay - cosplay is very important to me. So much that I don't even go out of character unless I have taken off a bit of the costume to be myself again. But I don't try to impose my rules on others. That's the thing.
