For #1 - it's been kind of established that you need to do the Killing Curse and then something else to purposely trap the piece of your soul. HP canon seems to be that normally, an AK will tear your soul a little bit, but then it "heals" afterward if you're not an absolutely batshit power-hungry egomaniac like Voldemort who purposely uses the 'tearing' to move the soul-piece somewhere else.

Didn't Dumbledore say the only thing to heal a soul was remorse? So I always figured that killing would create like... "fissures" in your soul, but not real tears, and if you feel remorse it'll heal itself, but if you make a horcrux it'll split the pieces beyond repair.

IN any case, JKR said that one of her editors asked how to make a horcrux and was so disgusted with the description that Jo decided never to put it in the books. So anon's idea of cannibalism may be true.

Did she ever post it online anywhere, or mention it in an interview? I never thought about how a horcrux was made before, but the description of that editor's reaction makes me REALLY want to know now.

This has interesting implications for law enforcement in the wizarding world. Do we ever see a "good guy" in HP use the Killing Curse (besides Snape on Dumbledore)? Molly kills Bellatrix with another curse, I believe.

The Avada Kedavra is called an Unforgivable, and I wonder if that means that wizards avoid using it if it all possible even in self-defense or the defense of others because of the inevitable soul damage. I also wonder do the books say that the death has to come from the AK, or is it just that killing people in general is damaging to the soul? Like, could you hack somebody up with an axe and then make a horcrux?

I always imagined that the creation of a horcrux involved some sort of ritual, but I have no idea what it would be.

Yeah I didn't get into Sherlock until after the first season was over, but I torrented it and watched it from the first episode.

OP: I mean watching them as they air. Community and Go On were both spur-of-the-moment "nothing else is on so why the fuck not" viewings and after a while I fell in love with them. I just like watching the first and last episodes live.
