If you said that I was writing oocly, I'd probably want you explain *why*, but...I can see why someone would take offense to it. Not that it justifies throwing a tantrum over, but I can still understand that.

That said - why would you comment about not liking a kink on a fic/thread/whatever about that kink? That just...doesn't make any sense to me.

So the writer knows that the reason the fic wasn't enjoyed was because of the kink not their writing abilities. It's much less of a personal attack than saying your writing sucks and it also shows there are people considering and reading what they wrote.

I just...yanno...browse by fics with kinks I didn't like.

...is everyone really so intent that everyone needs to hear their every reaction on everything?

So...Basically it would be a pointless comment, beyond possibly making someone feel bad. You, for some reason, feel the need to comment on something that has no basis in the writers abilities instead of hitting the back button and moving on.

Because you know...'I didn't like it because of the kink!' is kinda worthless feedback as far as that goes, since you'd obviously not be the intended audience.

OH MY GOD THISTHISTHISTHISTHIS

THANK YOU DEAR SIR/MADAM/PREFERRED PRONOUN FOR SAYING THIS

Completely disagree. I'd much rather hear someone didn't like my fic because they didn't like the kink or wished the dynamic was different than that I was a sucky writer. Kind of like I rather my husband divorced me because he finally admitted to the world he was gay than that he'd run off with a younger woman.

... No I get the impression that the person is talking about 'This is a good fic, but I didn't enjoy it much because it's just not to my tastes' kind of review. Which, honestly, is what you get/leave sometimes if you're in a small fandom when everyone know each other. /shrugs

AYRT

In a small fandom I can understand doing that - thing is it was never said that this behavior was happening in a small fandom, and if you're going say 'The only reason I didn't like your fic was because it had a kink I didn't like!' I'm honestly going to wonder what the point was...since...if you don't like it, don't read it [or skip the parts that have it.] Saying 'I don't like your kink' really doesn't add much of value to a review since it's entirely based on preferences that have nothing to do with writing. But that's just me, and [admittedly] my response would be to roll my eyes and ignore that part of the review.

tl;dr: I can understand it in a small fandom, but as a whole it doesn't seem to add anything to a review beyond 'IT WOULD HAVE BEEN GOOD BUT YOU ADDED SOMETHING [that, presumably you like] THAT I DON'T!'

except, amazingly, i don't give a fuck about whether you don't care about my kink or not. Clearly I wrote this fic with this pairing or kink or theme or whatever, which means, at the very least I am interested in it. And quite frankly for most people write more obscure pairings or kinks, we already know why most people are passing by said fics, and it is fine. Really. I don't need someone who doesn't share my kink to read my fic. On the other hand, comments that are basically 'hey, i would read this except it has kink x/pairing y/theme z' are useless and depending on how they are phrased have a tendency to come across as 'so you better write kink a/pairing b/theme q the next time you write something'.
