I'm unfamiliar with and mustard expressions that could have developed into 'Cut the mustard'. 'Kean as mustard' maybe? Dunno. Will research 'Cut the mustard' and see where it comes from.
Either way, both have been used, but I only know of the background for muster.

This is fun. I like etymology.
