Probably unrelated, but I've always really liked the look of boob armor, or whatever you want to call it. I like seeing more practical armor on women too, but for me, it depends on the context and the setting of the world the characters are in, I mean, I also like all those early 80s male barbarians running around in loincloths and boots which is pretty impractical. There's this pinball machine at my favorite arcade here called GORGOTH with a male barbarian type dude on the backboard and he looks to be wearing nothing at all aside from a helmet and maybe some sandals or footwear? IDK I'm amused and entertained by that. And speaking in D&D terms if someone has a really high armor class naturally (through magical means or otherwise) they don't really need that much armor.

I also prefer some of the classic superheroine outfits to the politically correct one (I saw a Wonder Woman redesign a fan did that gave her these non-form fitting pants and all I could think about is how uncomfortable that would be to move around in if I was trying to kick someone in the face or something). I don't get why gymnasts and wrestlers are allowed to wear skin tight, flexible garments that allow movement but female superheroes can't? I get the annoyance people have with too much cleavage and ridiculous body types where certain body parts are needlessly enhanced, and dumb footwear (this annoys me the most), but some of the criticisms I see of the outfits makes me facepalm in a major way

Whoops, it was called GORGAR. Apparently everyone in the late 70s was naked?

Nice strategic pose there! "Hup, nothing to see here, just lifting this fainted lady~"

I always just point out the Celts vs. the Romans. Naked fightIng! More effective than you'd think!

I mean, I have no problem with practical breast plates. I feel like Xena's, for example, works well enough. I don't mind a defined cup area because that seems like it would hold the breast better to keep it from slipping free or anything during combat. In the example there, the character is an archer who often climbs trees or works from horseback so her armor is leather as to be lighter weight.

The main problem I have with boob armor is metal boob armor that creates a point going inwards towards the sternum. Concentrating force there is a bad, bad idea.

But a leather battle bikini or whatever? Uh, sure! If you want! I guess if you have larger breasts, it's easier to fight mostly naked with some kind of bra support rather than fully naked with them bouncing around everywhere. So it's a fair equivalent to DUDE JUST WEARS LOINCLOTH AND BODYPAINT.

I wonder if there's a male equivalent issue. Like, testicle support in armor that doesn't focus pressure on the perineum. Inquiring minds want to know.

Yeah, I mean, I used to get pissed at the ridiculously over the top breastplate-with-extra-emphasis-on-the-breasts that showed up in fantasy art because it pandered so obviously to drooling neckbeard types. Now I just get weirded out when I see fantasy armor on either gender that looks like if they turn their head their spiky shoulder pauldrons are gonna give them an impromptu lobotomy, and the "please wallop me in the solar plexus" wonderbra armor is in the same category. I don't know if armor jockstraps present a similar problem. Maybe codpieces, in a "aim here for maximum pain" sort of deal.

Yeah, I've never had that much problems with boob armor in general either. Sure, they can get stupid and silly to be more sexy. But it help make characters different. Hell, it would be more detrimental for someone who relies on their speed and skill to lug around a full plate of armor. Or the clothing (including armor) may be designed to be more visually appealing rather than practical. Not all outfits have to be practical.

It depends on the story, it's tone, and it's setting. Sometimes I feel people who have no idea how character design works make the issue too black and white.
