I could be shitty to you about this but fuck it. Everyone occasionaly does shit for the attention and if you are not hurting anyone by it then why the fuck not.

I could be shitty to you about this

Uh...Why would you "be shitty" in the first place? For "this"? For...what, exactly? What's wrong with enjoying flirting and attention? How is liking attention "doing shit"? What exactly is she doing that means you would be justified in being shitty to her?

(Anonymous) 2013-05-30 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
by being shitty I meant being like the top commenter's. Sorry for the swearing I just watched deadwood.

Sorry for the swearing I just watched deadwood.

I am going to start using this as an excuse for everything.

You should have seen me when I watched poirot. I wrote the first few lines of my paper in a fake French accent.

BELGIAN accent, dammit. >:(

Ahahahahaahahahahahahahaahaaa.

Once when I'd spent weeks reading this epic Draco fic, everything that came out of my mouth sounded like the way this author wrote Draco (which was awesome but not so in-character for a Southern gal LOL).

There needs to be a name for this thing. When I've been reading a particular book, the author's writing style affects my internal meta/narration/what-have-you. If I've been focusing on a particular movie or show, and then go to read a book, I tend to hear lines in the tv characters' voices for a while.

I've literally made it a point to do things like read news sites, play games, etc, when switching from one media or another - or between reading and doing my own writing - to cleanse my mental palette.

I'm glad to know I'm not alone because I do this all the time (and I've caught my daughter doing it too LOL). That's a good strategy to switch gears that I never would have thought of. :)

My accent changes at the drop of a hat. I start to sound British without even trying after a Doctor Who marathon, and after two weeks in space camp half the people I met thought I was a local. (This was in Alabama - I'm from Los Angeles).

I do that but only with variations of the accent I already have. When I spend time with my parents, I come back home sounding like I have two teeth and my dad is also my grandpa. LOL

(Also space camp!!!!!!! So jealous. I bet that was fun)

There is literally nothing to be shitty about in this secret. She plays games, she enjoys those games, and while she plays she receives attention that she enjoys. I don't see where she stated that she only plays because of the attention.

And yet the top comments they exist

(Anonymous) 2013-05-30 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I doubt they are sincere. I strongly suspect it's just super low-effort trolling. "Gotta get this in first! PEOPLE WILL GET SO MAD IT'LL BE GREAT". Just lame boring bullshit.

[personal profile] tyger66 2013-05-30 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
idk. I hope they're trolling, but then there were comments like the one I replied to; implying that there is something inherently "shitty" about enjoying attention. Just enjoying it; not asking for it, not begging for attention, not going out and screaming "HELLO THERE GAIZ I AM A GIRL PLEASE TALK TO ME ABOUT MY BOOBIES"

ugh

(Anonymous) 2013-05-31 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
accident of phrasing, i would hope, given that their ultimate conclusion seems to be "there's nothing wrong with enjoying attention"

i mean, it's a weird-ass way to get to / state that conclusion, i'll grant you. it's a weird dumb post.

But see, they (and several others here) still seem to see it as OP intentionally doing something for the sole purpose of getting attention. And that....is so not what they actually said.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-31 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
That's a good point.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-31 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
On a related note, as this genuinely bothers me.

Why do people get upset at depressed people who hurt themselves and call them "attention seekers"

Is this not a good thing? You want to notice the hurt people so you can help. You want them to attention seek and not hide everything away until they're dead/no longer them. Attention seeking when depressed is a good thing! Their methods not so much, but now people know and can help!

But there are people who'd rather sit and call them attention seekers and then later on lament that no-one helps the depressed?

I'd hope that anyone in pain, no matter if it's physical or emotional, would seek attention so they can be helped O_O

(Anonymous) 2013-05-31 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
you really have no clue, do you.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-31 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think anyone who is depressed and hurts themselves is actually an "attention seeker". I could be wrong, but I believe self-harming is what people do INSTEAD OF drawing attention to the fact that they are unhappy.

Harming yourself for attention is a completely different thing (I believe they call that Munchausen's).

I am completely guessing here, but I think the issue stems from the "emo kids" who claim to be depressed and SAY that they harm themselves/etc. but don't, or who glorify it and act like cutting is a good thing, drawing negative attention to actually depressed people. Sadly, there are instances of people lying about various disorders/abuse/etc., saying that they are sick or that horrible things happen to them, when it's not true. (As far as I know, this usually isn't the case, but people hear of it happening once or twice and make assumptions)

But again, I'm just guessing.
