So much love for this secret! Seriously, I'll never read anything he writes ever again, just because he's blinded by Amanda Fucking Palmer... I figure he's really not very bright.

Not a Palmer fan at all (outside of the music, and even then it's limited to the Dresden dolls), but I humbly suggest you grow the fuck up.

+2. I don't give a fuck about Amanda Palmer but all of this bitching about her in relation to Neil just sounds like a bunch of bitter people who were gaga about Neil (and not so much about his work) until he found a partner. Shame on all of you!

I've only ever read one thing he's written (Coraline), and I only read that because I liked the movie.

So, no.

Nice try, though! Next time, try "you're just jealous!"!

If you already aren't interested in reading his works, then why are you remotely interested in who he marries, and pledge to never read his books again?

I think he's very intelligent, but I also think that he's a middle-aged man who enjoys sleeping with a hot bisexual rockstar 15 years his junior. It's not particularly admirable but it's understandably human.

Y'know, if we're gonna be basing someone's readability and "brightness" with who they married and/or how their romantic relationships turned out... yeah, we're gonna have to wave goodbye to a good 80% of literature, won't we. Fitzgerald, Poe, Arthur Miller, Zora Neal Hurston, Roald Dahl... yeah, they're not that bright.

Seriously, you read one work of his (one of his children's books, no less) and you declare him worthless as a writer and stupid besides because of who he married? Yeah, get over yourself.

I have a feeling that you were the maker of this secret.

Agreed. I don't understand why it's considered such a bad thing to judge someone by their spouse. If you have actively decided that a giant asshole is someone you want to consider as your other half and the person you're closest to in life.... that says something about you. Who's company you keep does say something about you.

Just being friends with someone like Amanda Palmer would make me side-eye a person pretty hard. She's clearly been a complete scumbag many, many times, and anyone who is willing to ignore that is unlikely to be a good or admirable person.

His books are merely mediocre and no great loss.

I thought this was common sense. This discussion thread proves otherwise, I guess!

I enjoyed Coraline, but it was nothing all that spectacular. He's practically worshipped as a God on the 'net, so I figured he must be some kind of genius!
