It doesn't matter where you live or what you're doing at the moment. Knowing how to drive a car and having a driver's license that will very likely be useful at some point in your life, so you should learn how. Also, a driver's license is a good form of ID to have. Basically not having a driver's license is shortsighted and a tad selfish.

Jsyk there is such a thing as a state ID! It is exactly the same as a driver's license but without the driver's part. http://www.dmv.org/id-cards.php The more you know!

Like the person above said, there is such a thing as a state ID that works the exact same way but just doesn't include the driving part.

And selfish? Oooooookay then. Personally I love driving and would go crazy without my car but I don't see how it's 'selfish' to not have a driver's license.

How is it selfish?

I would love to be able to drive, but the actual driving on roads other people use leaves me so paralyzed with fear that I would probably kill someone the first time I had to remember which way I need to go on a busy intersection. So I figure that if I don't trust myself with a car, I probably shouldn't be driving.

And there is always the non-driving State ID.

So long as a person is capable of getting around without forcing friends and family to chauffeur them around 24/7 (which would be somewhat selfish), I don't understand how not having a license affects anyone but themselves.

I think it's useful, because it opens up more opportunities for jobs and travel and could be useful in an emergency. I'm not sure about "selfish" unless you're constantly begging people for rides.
