Sirius/Remus makes me wince. Usually I'm the queen of subtext, but I can't find anything to build up on with this ship.

Ditto. To me it's like when you go to your class reunion and see an old classmate that you thought you were so close with but now you're completely different people so you have these awkward "Remember when..." conversations. They were friends and are always connected via the events of the past, but may as well be strangers. I think a decade in a hellhole like Azkaban changes a person deeply.

To me they just seem like they were shipped because of convenience. There was this great foursome (ignoring Wormtail and adding Lily) so you've got James/Lily and then... Sirius and Remus. And despite the fact that Sirius and Remus's history seemed dismal at best, people loved the idea of them together because it completed this foursome.
