My favorite pokemon will always be Ninetails and Farfetch'd. :3 Though I like fire pokemon the most overall.

Agreed about fire Pokemon. So many fire Pokemon are based on my favourite types of animals. And I get such a satisfaction in seeing blasts of fire hit the other Pokemon.

Fire and lightning types are my favs, that's just a personal preference I always have. Though fire types as starters also work best for me because of the way I team build (I usually prefer picking up a plant type as I go and I don't want a water type unless it's water/ground)

(Anonymous) 2013-06-05 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, your favorite pokemon it's spelled "ninetales" and not "ninetails".

I think they're just not popular because they're not 'cute'. The popular choices are usually the cute and aesthetically pleasing Pokemon.

I never used Arbok or even Ekans because I'm not really into Poison-type Pokemon, but I'm pretty sure I remember Beedrill as being able to hold his own pretty well. They're your Pokemon, nobody can tell you which to use :3

:/ Not sure I agree with this. SOME people prefer cute ones, but most people I know prefer Pokemon that are tough (which generally doesn't intercept with "cute" in the world of Pokemon, though it depends.)

They are cute to me but I admit I've never really used them as part of my team.

Any Pokemon that you put effort into leveling up and picking good attacks for is going to be good. Playing with your favorites is the best strategy.

Hey, I love to fight with Beedrill!

I love Arbok! It was always in my party in Silver. Beedrill's cool, too~

I love them both, although I have a female Arbok on a game that has a special place in my heart. It was traded to me as a baby Ekans from a boy I liked when I was very young who was older than me, but kind. The Arbok it grew into ended up being in my team against the Elite 4 and beating the game.
I also love Seadra for the same reason, but it was a card he gave me for my birthday.

Thanks, Jimmy. You made a little starry eyed kid very happy.

Really, just use what you like. They're games. Have fun with them.

I gave Ekans/Arbok a try in my recent Soul Silver game, and he's a great Pokemon to have!

I make it a point to try a new team every time I play a game. Although I'll usually have a Wooper at some point. XD

i am actually really afraid to fight these pokemon

i usually load up on grass or grass/poison types and Chimecho is my Psychic of choice so a Arbok/Beedrill duo would pretty much wipe out my whole team.

I had an Arbok on my main team in Red, although it's been so long I can't remember why other than it beat the shit out of one of the Elite Four teams.

Beedrill messed up Erika something good when I was young and naive and only really fought with my Blastoise.

(Pic of Ekans and Beedrill from Pokemon)

These two are my all time favorite Pokemons, and I always have them in my team.

I feel a little sad knowing they’re not very popular choices for battling, but I won enough battles against Grounds and Psychics to know they’re anything but weak.

I've thought about using a Beedrill as a legitimate part of my team, since I love bug types, but somehow Vespiquen always wins out.

Though honestly they don't even share the same secondary type, so I don't really have an excuse for not using both.

But then again, if I have to choose a poison/bug type, I'll always pick Scolipede. Damn, I was so happy when I found out there was a centipede Pokémon. (Speaking of Pokés no one would ever use...)

But anyway, I agree with everyone else. You should just use your favourites and never feel bad about it. I ended up going through B/W with an entire team of bug types because they were the new Pokémon I really liked in gen 5. No regrets.

They're not weak if you're not playing competitively, sure. But even then it can be fun to use your favorites, even if they aren't objectively at the same level as other Pokemon.
