Are there any major general fandom comms that AREN'T SJW circle-jerks, these days?
Anyway, OP, try doing what I do - just avoid anything that mentions racism/sexism/ablism/homophobia, or generally any other -ism or -phobia, in the title or the cut. Stick to the other rants and it's actually not that bad. :)

(Anonymous) 2013-06-05 04:44 am (UTC)(link)Seriously, they rehash it every two days. True, there are issues with consent-kink fic and how it's presented or mispresented, but there are other things to poke with a stick in the fanfic world.
How bad do I date myself if I say "broken record"?
Re: Are there any major general fandom comms that AREN'T SJW circle-jerks, these days?
*crickets*
But yeah, most rants are crappy, and I actually kind of lump the non-/dub-con rants into the same category as the -isms and -phobia rants. It is fairly redundant, but once you ignore all those, it's not that bad, and can sometimes still be pretty fun. It's one of those "wading through 90% crap to find the 10% worthwhile stuff" situations, and I've found that if it's not related to consent issues or social justice, a lot of the SJWs there just lose interest and don't bother with a rant, or at the very least mellow out quite a bit. *shrugs* But then, I don't really hang out there anymore, so much as just pop in every now and then, which happens to be how I deal with just about every comm and fandom in general. I can get how other people's experiences are different in this matter.
It's times like this when I seriously considering wandering back into ontd_political just to *insert bad Pitch Black impersonation* have some fun.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-05 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)I have in the past had a couple of times where I've been dogpiled, and it's me being naive, thinking I could explain myself and my point of view, then realising that it's a waste of time at the point where they've started bitching about me to each other, or just continue to question everything I've said, telling me to check my privilege (which I find hilarious when they know fuck all about me and in fact I'm not that privileged ) anyhow I learnt on that comm just to shut up once it starts happening, I avoid being baited now and compose my responses in my head, and just ignore them. What I'd love to do is tell them to fuck off and grow up, but of course it's not anon, so doing that could lead to nasty PMs which I wouldn't want to risk.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-05 08:01 am (UTC)(link)There's a backlash against SJWs there and it's growing.
There's a lot of good stuff on social justice issues, of course, but you don't have to feel like you're walking on eggshells because everyone is basically on the same page.
I feel a lot more comfortable on Tumblr than on LJ or DW where someone will so easily misconstrue something you say.
Re: Are there any major general fandom comms that AREN'T SJW circle-jerks, these days?
...now if only Tumblr made any sense to me...
