Fanfic Rants. I didn't even enjoy it during its heyday.

Fanfic Rants. It's a comm where the users complain about bad fics. I avoid it, but the one time I did stumble across it, they were complaining about the term 'lame' being used to describe something pathetic, and there was one...person (I'm thinking of another word but won't use it) who was going on about how oppressed she was because fourteen year old fanfic writers didn't properly write lesbians and needed to educate themselves on gender identity concepts.

Looking back on it, that was the start of my hatred for the SJW community.

I mourn more for the open discussions of metafandom more than I do for fanficrants. But yes, I do actually remember a time when fanficrants was actually a lot more lighthearted in general, and not the SJ-bingo-card-point-collecting bonanza that it is now.

I was never that fond of it, but it's so weird to me how its original purpose is basically against the rules now - complaints about a fic sucking often get met with accusations of entitlement. Yeah no shit nobody owes you decent fic, but it's still annoying when people don't even try.

It's gone the way of SF_Drama (Stupid Free Drama) - that place rapidly devolved into SJW central, and since I didn't check enough boxes on their minority checklist, I was made to feel unwelcome and decided to leave. Never regretted it for an instant!

it's been so many years since ffr was anything but a malicious, pearl-clutching circlejerk that i can't even remember when i liked it anymore

originally i stuck around because apart from some fun posts, there were occasional helpful discussions about writing

but for the past six years, even apart from the SJ wank, it's just been whining about how a single wrong word will pull them out of a fic, and the author and their beta doesn't think it's a big deal D: D: D: D:

along with the way they just exist to eat their own over everything, it kind of creeps me out how thoroughly they document each other

I used to find it kinda funny when I was younger. Now I find its original purpose kind of mean and its current state of being very, as they like to say, problematic. Most of the time I find them to be the very hateful people they fight against.

I'm ashamed now to admit I posted there once or twice. Oh well, you grow older and you learn.

So, because I now don't like either version I don't find its loss significant to me.

I'm kind of wondering how this thread will turn out though. There used to be quite a bit of overlap between these two comms but after the move I've only seen a few FFR people here. So will this turn into wank or no? I guess it depends on how many people still care enough about that place.

been at ffr for years (5+) and am always pleased to see that shit isn't tolerated there. could do with less "waist/waste" rants, but I suppose we can't have everything.

Back in my day, all we had to worry about on FFR was Scott Summers' wife who was raising her children to believe a fictional character was her Dad. It was trollish for sure, but dangit, we enjoyed and worked for our wank!

Remember the days when FFR was anything approaching fun instead of a pathetic SJ circlejerk?
I feel I should be HAPPY I got banned from what it’s turned into, but I mess it; it was one of the few little pleasures which got me through a suicidal phase a few years back, and I’m seriously pissed off about what’s been done to it.

Are there any major general fandom comms that AREN'T SJW circle-jerks, these days?

And I'm not talking about the ones that are explicitly anti-SJ or anything, just places that are for fandom at large like F!S, FFR, etc, and are about fandom but not (yet) taken over by SJWs?

Anyway, OP, try doing what I do - just avoid anything that mentions racism/sexism/ablism/homophobia, or generally any other -ism or -phobia, in the title or the cut. Stick to the other rants and it's actually not that bad. :)

make your own fanfiction ranting community and only invite the cool kids

1. you piss those people off and you can laugh and laugh when they make rants on how elitist and mean you are

2. you have a happy fandom experience

I used to read it ages ago, when it was only mostly stupid instead of 100%. The best part is when you see the same people posting constantly, and then you read their fic and it is hilariously godawful.

Wasn't there somebody who shipped Sephiroth and Sailor Jupiter or something enough to have it as their icon, and was under the constant impression that anybody gave a shit?

The comm got a lot crankier and about itty-bitty P's and Q's when the loli trio made that massively offensive wank storm AND got the comm set to 18+ with no way for the mods to revert it. Since then I think anybody showing up with a whiff of that behavior has been getting stomped on with extreme prejudice.

Ehh, I still look in on it for anything interesting, but I am very shy of posting there, as even the slightest mistake (even simple grammar mistakes) will get pounced on an beaten to death and the actual subject of your post will get totally ignored in favour of that.

And that's not even touching the subject of hitting an -ism, or posting a "Stop liking what I don't like!" post.
