Because it's horrifying, presumably.

I wonder if Hannibal has any Horcruxes then? (weird crossover idea I just thought of)

(Anonymous) 2013-06-05 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
What's this about horcruxes and cannibalism? I don't understand. :(

(Anonymous) 2013-06-06 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Rowling says that the process to create a Horcrux involves an incredibly disgusting act, but has never said what it was exactly.

People in this community have suggested cannibalism.

sa

In the books, all we are told is that it requires a murder, and that it splits your soul, and possibly a specific dark magical ritual to prepare the object that will act as a vessel, but Rowling insinuates that the "disgusting act" is something besides the murder.

To reabsorb the Horcrux, you only have to regret the murder, I think, which makes me wonder if the "disgusting act" was made up later on by Rowling to keep interest in the series alive, or something.

This ia a repeat. If it isn't, then it was in the failbar before.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-06 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
No, it's a response to the previous secret.

someone added "me too but why cannibalism?"

(Anonymous) 2013-06-06 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Someone else added the green text, I think.

I wish she had done that encyclopedia thing instead of Pottermore.

Maybe this is why she wussed out on the encyclopedia?? She knows nothing she can come up with could possibly be worse than what fandom has come up with. The interactive website thing must have looked simpler in comparison. :V

I always thought it was murder. . .along with some spell you were supposed to cast, or something.

Trigger for pretty much everything.

[personal profile] elephantinegrace 2013-06-06 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
I thought it was physically, mentally, and sexually torturing a child and truly enjoying it because you're doing it with the intention of the intention of being immortal, no spell required; the vileness alone of the act splits the part of your soul that doesn't care about the child from whatever conscience you have.

Or maybe I just worked at the morgue for too long.

I'd read that fic.

Oh christ. Um, I think you win the Horcrux guessing Internets because I am not going to even try to match that. D: (and I would not read the fic D: )

-collects internet-

Sorry that freaked you out. And if this reassures you that I'm sane, I wouldn't read the fic either. (I don't have to read the fic; I lived the aftermath of it.)

Also, "with the intention of the intention of being immortal?" WTF?

Yeah. -internet hug-

(Anonymous) 2013-06-06 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
I always assumed it was a kind of soul-eating like diablerie in the White Wolf games. You kill someone and eat part of their soul (through a ritual or something idk) so you can use it to supplement the piece you break off.

This would have especially horrific implications in the series because it would mean that by killing Voldemort, Harry is essentially killing the last living piece of his mother's soul.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-06 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
...i wish this had been in the books now

(Anonymous) 2013-06-06 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
That Master, would you please just kindly fuck off?

(Anonymous) 2013-06-06 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
what?
