Fuck yeah, Ravenous! I also totally understand you. I can feel that way about certain fandoms. As long as you're not being an overt dick about it, I'd imagine it's more common than people want to admit.

I don't think this is an uncommon sentiment. "I liked it before it was cool" is kind of a common feeling, I think.

I know how you feel, though. I like a lot of underground JPop groups, and there's something nice about being the only real English fan of a couple of them. It kind of makes you feel a bit special, even if you want the thing to get more fans. I was a fan of a group right when they didn't have that many English-speaking fans (Momoiro Clover, now Momoiro Clover Z) and they've since become one of the biggest pop groups in Japan. On the one hand it's great they've grown so much and people recognize how great they are, but on the other hand I feel like the tight-knit community is completely gone.

It seems to me that a lot of people feel this way, they just don't admit it.

As a newer fan who tends to get into older shows, it's an attitude I don't appreciate. It's very hard to feel welcomed when the old fans want to "protect" their stuff. And chase off new fans with these attitudes and then they wonder why their fandoms are dying out.
