I dunno, man, Sam and Dean are capable of having lives without each other. Nice, kinda happy normal lives, even. Also there may be an instant MPREG bone-breaking-birthing fic out there but I don't look very hard for what I don't want to find.

What show have you been watching? No they are not. That is the whole fucking point of the show. I think they say it actually.

Sam was in Hell, Dean went off and shacked up with a girl and his possible kid. He wasn't perfectly happy but he could deal. Dean was in purgatory, Sam got a girl and dog. Also not perfectly happy but not bad. Edward goes away for a little bit and Bella tries to bump herself off to get him back. What's more fucked up here?

They are equally fucked up.

Also Dean SOLD his soul because he could not fathom living without Sam. Sam WENT nuts and got addicted to demon blood because he wanted to get revenge over Dean's death.

When Dean was living with Lisa he was showing signs up paranoia and such. Sam more so. And as soon as the first opportunity to have their brother back was presented, they took it.

So? They at least made an effort to move on, PTSD and all, and they KNOW they're fucked up. Bella thinks she's living the height of sweet romance.

Bella is also a teenager. While Sam and Dean are adults.

What's the point here? Bella gets a pass for her ignorance because she's a kid? Maybe she does. But that doesn't excuse her canon for expecting the viewer to be ignorant too. Sam and Dean have some self-awareness about their situation but even if they didn't, their canon doesn't pretend everything's okay.

Also Dean SOLD his soul because he could not fathom living without Sam.

Seemed to me that Dean sold his soul more because he'd failed at his life long mission, the whole 'take care of Sammy' thing his father had hammered into his head since he was 4 years old. I mean, sure, he was pretty distraught over losing his brother, but I never saw him selling his soul as him being unable to live without him, just him being unable to live with himself if he ~let Sam die.

But then, I'm not one of those hard-core 'brothers' fans, so I don't get too overly romantic about their relationship.

When Dean was living with Lisa he was showing signs up paranoia and such. Sam more so.

Dean didn't get overly paranoid until he was infected with djinn juice. Until then, it'd been basic precautions, like devil's traps and a shot gun under the bed 'just in case'. And there was absolutely NO indication that Sam was paranoid at all in his year with Amelia, in fact considering he seemed to have ignored any and all aspects of anything supernatural that year, I'd bet money that he didn't take many precautions, if any.

And as soon as the first opportunity to have their brother back was presented, they took it

Maybe you don't actually watch this show.

But when Sam died Dean sold his soul to the devil to get him back. That's pretty damn co-dependent.

SA

Missed where the person above pointed this out, but yes. It's really not any better.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-11 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
The difference to me is the Winchesters recognize their screwiness and actually face it, however badly, and the sparklepires don't.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-11 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Out of curiosity, have you watched the show?

(Anonymous) 2013-06-11 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
ayrt

Umm...yes. Does knowing that Dean sold his soul somehow imply that I haven't seen it? /confused

(Anonymous) 2013-06-11 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Bargaining is a noted stage of the grieving process. The only thing separating Dean and a lot of bereaved folk is that for Dean, somebody actually came along to make the right kind of offer.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-11 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Except that's not the same thing at all. In Dean's world that kind of bargain was actually a possibility, and he knew it. Most grieving people don't actually have that option.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-11 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
And you assume they would no longer bargain if it were?

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure a few would, but probably not most.

Maybe I'm underestimating people, though.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
The stages of grief aren't going to change just because angels and demons are popping up all over the place.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
No, that's not what I meant, I just...don't think most people would actually follow through on that option if it were given to them, but maybe I'm wrong.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
DA

I know a lot of people who would sell their soul for less than 'bring my co-dependant brother back to life'.

For example 'bring my mother back to life', 'don't let my mother figure die', 'make X girl love me' and things like that.

Or 'make me rich and famous' but that's a whole different kettle.

For as long as the myth of the deal with the devil has existed, there have been people who would gladly do it for the sake of a loved one. Even if their relationship was all healthy before the deal was needed.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
I think enough people would that it would constitute a variant of normal. Like second toes that are longer than the big toe.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
"my soul gone in a year" is a really abstract concept, especially if you've just, say, lost your kid.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Not to mention Sam's reaction when Dean went to hell, both in Mystery Spot and attempting to sell his soul when it actually happened.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-11 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha, that depends on who the showrunner is. There seem to be some drastically differing opinions on that.
