Thoughts on E3 and The Hobbit?

Yes I know these two things have little to do with each other. :P

But what are your thoughts on E3? Of course my main thought is Sony just murdered Microsoft.


And the Hobbit? I cannot WAIT to see it. Though I think Legolas looked weird as hell in the teaser. Also, I was expecting more from Smaug (and sort of sad they showed him in the trailer).

I am looking forward to the upcoming wank about Tauriel. And there will definitely be wank.

There are few things I find funnier than book purists throwing a hissy fit when a film adaptation dares to deviate from canon. (And this is coming from someone who used to be a book purist herself!)

Everyone is all "OMG new final fantasy YAY" and I'm very indifferent to it. It sounds like classic FF plot (crystals! empires and kingdoms at war!) but with all the convoluted BS from FF XIII.
It's really pretty though.

Even though I haven't bought any Sony consoles since the PS2, I still consider myself to be brand-loyal to the company I've played games from all my life. I'm extremely pleased that now, everyone is hating the Xbox and Microsoft and at least Sony didn't mess up like them.

HAAAA Sony slaughtering Microsoft was pure entertainment. I actually love my 360 much more than my PS3 but when it comes to the next gen consoles, I'll be going for the PS4.

THANK GOD WE FINALLY HEARD SOMETHING ABOUT FINAL FANTASY VERSUS XIII. Also thank god it's now just FFXV because I could never remember the other title for some reason.

The Elder Scrolls Online looks pretty swanky. I'm pretty hesitant about it but I loved the glimpse we got of it.

The Walking Dead: 400 Days: WHERE THE FUCK IS CLEMENTINE? Was she in the trailer? If she was, I didn't see her. I saw a bunch of people I don't care about (but I'll undoubtedly cry over their deaths).

TALES OF XILLIA AAAAH SO PRETTY. ALSO SO MANY SHIP POSSIBILITIES.

Where the fuck is The Last Guardian? I want that game. I WANT THAT GAME. GIVE IT TO ME, PLEASE. ;^;

I'm virtually exclusively a PC gamer.

Mostly Steam, specifically. I got a 360 for free with my laptop and it currently collects dust. The Sony presentation made me actually interested in saving up for a PS4, so there's that. It'd make more sense for me to save up for an oculus rift but hey a girl can dream.

I know I want a Kinect 2 at some point, but that's because I want to screw around with it in Garry's Mod and the like, so I doubt I'll be an early adopter with that.

I saw someone on twitter complaining about there being no female protagonists in the Assassins series, completely ignoring the Vita game, which is about a black woman in Louisiana. They also advertised her getting whole levels in Assassins 4 (albeit exclusive to the PS4 version). This is hilarious to me.

As a Sony fangirl, I'm pretty pleased about them wiping the floor with Microsoft :3
FFXV is the only game I got really excited about (7 years...) although Second Son looks pretty good. And I still have to watch the new MGS trailer.

Pure glee, I'm so happy that Sony didn't fuck up. Microsoft got completely destroyed by Sony and I loved it. Might probably wait for a year or two to buy the ps4 like when I bought the ps3 since I have wayyyy too much games that I haven't finished yet...Plus hoping that games will be cheaper and that KH3/XV is out by then.

The video that Sony did of 'how to share games' nearly killed me. Well played guys.

On one hand I want Desolation of Smaug NOW. On the other: SPIDERS, FUCKING SPIDERS. AHA. CRUD. That's going to be at least twenty minutes of the film I'll be hiding behind my fingers from. Legolas did look... odd now that several people have mentioned it to me, I wonder if they've CG'd him a bit to make him look 'young'.

I'm a little bummed that we've seen Smaug in the trailer, I kind of wanted them to leave him as a big reveal, but at the same time I really like the way he looks so I dunno. A little yay and nay on that front for me I think.

The Hobbit trailer was great. The only thing that stood out to me,though, was how odd Legolas looked. I can't quite put my finger on it. He just looks really CG'd and it's a bit creepy. also I think his eyes were way bluer/brighter than they should be?

I was hoping for more Transistor information.

So DA3, another Bioware game that coerces you into kicking puppies, lectures you about kicking puppies, has a plot that doesn't make sense ultimately explained by a deus ex asshole who makes even less sense, shipping with content you need to pay more for, ultimately ending up in a DLC where you go from non-interactive cut-scene to non-interactive cut-scene of people saying how great you are?

Not terribly into the Microsoft/Sony thing.

I generally do PC as far as gaming goes, but every now and then I wanna lounge on the couch, and husband is more into the console side of things. So my household definitely had some interest in Sony vs. Microsoft.

I came away surprised. But pleasantly.

I had a PlayStation in the '90s, and I got a PS2 instead of an Xbox. So I still have that "OMG PS" thing going on in the back of my head. But the 360 owned the PS3, and Sony's been making comparatively crappy electronics for the past few years, so I was prepared to step into Microsoft's camp this time around.

Turns out they're trying to do with One what they tried to do with Windows 8, doing it just as badly, and tossing in a slice of off-putting control-freak restriction to further poison the deal. Meanwhile, Sony's learning from what they did wrong the last time.

You've come through for me, my champion of old. I salute you.

I'm even more excited about the trailer than I thought I'd be! Sure, as few things looked a bit more CGed than I would have liked, but really? I don't even care about that. I just want it to be December already! :D

Sony did right by their consumers and deserve to be rewarded for it. They'll own this generation and that pleases me.

Sony taking potshots at Microsoft admittedly brought me an almost perverse joy, but a part of me is still sad that Microsoft didn't care about how invasive, insulting and poorly thought out their restrictions are. It's doing the exact opposite of what a huge majority of their fanbase want; if nothing else it's just bad business, but for me it hurts because I thought they had better sense then that. (No matter what you think of Microsoft, this whole debacle was shockingly bad.)

I love my 360 and have spent countless hours gaming on it. I wanted Microsoft to succeed but all they've done so far is fail spectacularly; it's all their fault too, and frankly they deserve it. (I do sort of think they'll lift some of their restrictions because of the outlash and what Sony is doing. But I'm not terribly tech savvy so maybe this is far more complicated than I think and it'll never happen, and if it does it could be years before it ever gets implemented.)

As for E3 itself, it's been better than I expected. Kingdom Hearts 3 was the biggest surprise in YEARS imo, and Square Enix finally brought back that one Final Fantasy that was first announced a million years ago (it looks VERY fun gameplay wise, so I might actually finish this one). Plus Beyond: Two Souls is looking better than ever and The Last Guardian is still in development (even if it's not being shown)... Then there's Metal Gear Solid V (which looks amazing and I'm stupidly excited for), Batman Arkham Origins, and Bayonetta 2 (YAY, even if I won't play it for years). The Evil Within looks nice so far, and Sunset Overdrive looks wonderful (wheee Jet Grind Radio with guns) so I wish it wasn't an Xbox One exclusive. Still, I'm looking forward to watching a walkthrough of it. Halo just makes me depressed because I've been with the series from the start and don't want to miss out on anything, but Microsoft screwed that up for me and tons of other players. That's just the stuff I remember...

So yea, E3 wasn't as awful as it could've been. Sony basically single-handedly saved it.

As for Hobbit: yes. Though TBH I love Legolas, CGI face and all. I just love Legolas. I do think it was unnecessary to touch him up so much and he probably would've looked better without it, but...I'm still happy about all that Legolas. And Tauriel is gorgeous and seems to kick a lot of ass so I'm interested in how she's going to fit into the film. Plus Thranduil, and dwarves in barrels, and Bilbo smiling among butterflies and Smaug being epic... It was a great trailer and I wish the movie weren't months away.

I'm not sure what I'm more excited about, KHIII, FFXIV or Pokemon X/Y. What I am sure about is that it's a great time to be a gamer. Sucks to be Microsoft right now, though.

It was all about Dragon Age: Inquisition for me, though I'm really psyched for Bayonetta 2 and The Hobbit.
