Anyone else...

finds that all the SJWs sort of desensitized you to social justice issues? I used to be pretty into it (like, a lot), but now whenever I see the words "sexist", "misogynistic", "racist", etc., in fandom, I just scroll past without bothering. Everything is sexist/misogynistic/racist in fandom these days, and I just can't take the constant nit-picking and whining and bitching and fighting...ugh, that's not why I come to fandom, and that's not what fandom is about for me. I still care about social issues, don't get me wrong, but fandom is my escape from RL bullshit. It sucks that I can't get away from it anywhere, apparently. It also sucks that I have to witness SJWs picking apart all my fandoms and blowing even the tiniest things completely out of proportion.

They need to just make a separate community for all these social issues (i.e. Sherlock_sjw, social_issues_spn, fandom_sexism, sj_dw, etc) and leave all those rants/arguments over there.

Yes. It's like when you repeat your own name so many times it stops sounding like anything.

Being ranted at so much over it actually makes me less likely to listen to them. I now automatically assume whatever they are getting in a knot over is nothing. It's now in classic boy who cried wolf territory.

This exactly. I've blacklisted every single social justic word and phrase I've come across on Tumblr.

When I want to deal with serious social issues, I go to serious social issue sites and discuss it with rational grownups.

Yup. Which is partially why I stopped taking tumblr and fandom "activists" seriously, and started doing stuff in real life that might actually make a difference. I think SJW's screaming over non-issues just waters down actual problems existing in the world. Worse, it might make people hostile towards the actual cause.

Yup. This exactly. I long for the 90s and early 2000s where this was nonexistent to very little. I wish they'd shut up and take their shit and create SJW communities for their shit. But that would take away their joy in destroying others's squee for the show.

Yup! After reading that you should "check your privilege" a thousand times, and intersectionality, and so on and so on, eventually you just check out when you see the buzzwords. Oh, it's one of THEM. And you scroll on by.

Yes. Fandom SJWs are too often to social justice and feminism as the Westboro Church is to Christianity.

There are some level-headed people among the social justice crowd, but holy hell, the loudest ones attack like sharks every time someone uses a wrong term or voices an opinion that doesn't 100 % match theirs. And then they absolutely have to bring up this one incident every fucking time the celebrity or fan in question is mentioned.

OMG, yes, that is such an apt comparison!

Yep. I no longer give a flying fuck and the moment you use one of those words I nope right the fuck out of there. In fact, I can't take anyone seriously if they start using those words in relation to fandom anymore.

I wonder if part of the problem is the general trend towards stunted discussion spaces? Fewer places where giant walls of text are standard, and where discussions remain accessible for days or weeks without moving off one's dash or blog-cycle?

If you don't ever have the long-winded version of the discussion then of course everybody just ends up rehearsing the same three or four opening moves over and over and over and the conversation never progresses.

I also choose to blame Shakesville.
