I don't find it funny either and I think I do have a sense of humor.

The majority of "conversations" on Tumblr is stupid because:

a) it's fucking impossible to follow (endlessly clicking on MORE NOTES)
b) when you finally get to some comments, you realize the average mental age of the participants is often about 12

Not everyone wants to be serious 24/7. Sometimes it's fun to go onto tumblr and make silly childish comments (that are normally an inside joke).

It's lighthearted fun. instead of getting frustrated over not being able to laugh at X jokes, maybe browse around a little to find tumblrs that do reblog/post things you like or find funny?

But no need to insult the people who are participating.

If you're clicking on MORE NOTES to follow a conversation on tumblr, I have to assume you don't know how to use tumblr.

Who reads a conversation by going through the notes instead of just...reading the post, where the conversation is shown through blockquotes?

1) Humor is subjective

2) The original post could have gone one of two ways:
1. People dogpiling on the OP and calling them a fucking moron for not realizing how budgeting works.

-OR-

2. People rolling with it and making dumb remarks in kind and it winds up being like a funny conversation you have with your friends.

Seriously, do you never say something that's actually stupid with your friends, but instead of calling you on it they continue and turn it into a big joke to make you not feel like an idiot?

It's tumblr, there is a lot of LOLHOWRANDOM, which usually combines with how hard it is to follow conversions/replies in the worst of ways. Plus most people go to tumblr for things other than serious thought.

Eh, you're going to get this type of thing from Tumblr from the get go whether you like it or not. To me it's mostly just "LOLwutWTFbbq" from the part of the Tumblr users although there were times when I seriously questioned "are they really joking about this?"

Unfollow the users and Tumblr Saviour their posts. If that doesn't help, either ignore them or close off Tumblr comeplely for a while.

Sometimes fandom humor is hilarious to me, other times it's just sort of flat and dumb but everyone implicitly agrees to behave as though it's funny. It doesn't make me angry, it's just weird.

Don't worry, OP, it really is that stupid. Unfortunately, the only way to avoid it is to leave Tumblr and/or the fandom completely, which really isn't worth it. Nothing wrong with continuing to rant about it anonymously.
