It seems evident that most people do though, since that's what most of the fics are (at least seemingly for K/S), but I'm not sure if who bottoms or tops ever counts as "fanon"? I haven't seen this becoming a point of controversy (just like almost every other supposed ST wank bomb mentioned in this comm, despite me being pretty active in the fandom, which I find to be quite mysterious indeed) but people will respond strongly to it when it's worded in a way that reflects gay stereotypes and really obnoxious yaoi-ish simplifications of gay sex.

I've never seen this either, but I thought this might explain it too. Even for characters who I vastly prefer bottoming, a lot of the time the most vocal fans of my preference are also into things I hate like yaoi-ish tropes or omegaverse or degrading language. YKIMK and all that, but I can see how it's more likely to cause wank than other kinks.

From what I understand back when I was in that fandom years ago, people hated it because, at least where I hung around, it became a popular thing that was actually shorthand for a creepily possessive big seme Spock and weeping uke Kirk. (This, of course, was just when you mentioned it as a selling point in your fic. If Spock happened to top without the other stuff or you mentioning it as a selling point no one would care.)

I'm guessing it's different now and most of those fics have washed away into obscurity. Sucks that people still have a knee-jerk reaction to it though.

Or maybe that is completely unrelated and you've just run into some real jerks. Either way, I hope things get better for you.

Well, it's just a personal preference. Everyone has preferences when it comes to porn so I don't see the big deal. I've noticed people saying they prefer both bottom!Kirk and bottom!Spock and never seen any sort of drama spring from it. (How do I always miss out on the wank? IDGI.)
