I'm a woman and I like the boob window and her large breasts. Most comic book women are over-inflated and scantily dressed, but we pretend they aren't. That it is just an art style artifact that makes them look so large. With Pee-Gee we have a character who is large chested because she actually does have large breasts, and she is scantily dressed because she doesn't have any issues about her body and showing that she is completelly comfortable about her body. I find that empowering, I wish we had more super-heroines who were like that.

None of that touches on the fact that the "excuse" isn't feasible.

1) She isn't a real character - she's made up - a man decided to do the boob window thing.
2) He came up with a shitty excuse - instead of having that be the way she wants to dress.

Actually, I might be wrong, but I think the comic where she says that she doens't know what to put in there was written by a woman.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-30 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
That changes nothing. Most women in the comic industry (excluding Gail Simone) are too terrified of losing their jobs to go against the male centric attitudes.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-30 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
So if a man does it is evil because evulz oppreshun, if a woman does it she is just a weak and feeble woman.

Talk about having your cake and eating it too.

You don't know anything about women working in comics, do you?

Right. Gail Simone never caved on an important issue of representation to keep her job. Nope. Never happened.

Oh.

Wait.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-30 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh wait what?

She really never has.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-30 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
What about that time she wanted to bring Cassandra Cain into Birds of Prey and make her a Christian to better represent religion, but DC wouldn't let her?

Uh... her current Batgirl series?

(Anonymous) 2013-06-29 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes most comic book women are over-inflated and scantily dressed, but who ignores it? The same people that let the boob-window pass.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-29 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm a woman

I hate it when posts start with that statement. As though it gives more importance to their opinion because they've stated their gender. 9 times out of 10 it's supporting the status quo while implying anyone who disagrees isn't secure in herself as a woman.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-29 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Just as you're implying by the very nature of your comment that the OP is actually somehow self-hating. Cheers.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-29 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
No, OP is actually Other Women hating because loving the boob window makes her empowered and better than people who know that appliqué needs a surface to rest on or something something.

You could do better.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-29 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
The secret creator made it clear they think that the boob window is just for basement dwelling guys to fap to. I think it is plenty relevant the OP is a woman. She's pointing out the hole in the fap material argument is a hole as big as the one in the character's costume.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-29 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
You're projecting so hard you should be working at IMAX.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-29 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh you oh so edgy, you badass.

Waaaaait wait wait wait.

You wish that more super-heroines were like that? How about EVERY GODDAMN SUPER-HEROINE EVER MADE? Super-heroines who DON'T dress skimpily are the exception to the rule, and even then they probably had a skimpier version of their costume at some point in time. (See: Sue Storm in the 90s)

And ah yes, the good old 'empowering' argument. Funny how women only show their confidence in themselves by wearing very little, but the guys still pull that off while being covered head-to-toe. *snort* Riiiiight.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-30 11:25 am (UTC)(link)
Women feel empowered by pushing the boundaries of what we can wear because we keep getting told to cover up or we're sluts. Well I'm not a slut, and I'm not going to let a man tell me I should be covered up. Its my body and I'll choose to display it if I want. It is good to have fiction role models that aren't constantly being told to cover up or just generally being covered up to satisfy this insane need for puritanical modesty.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-30 12:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Way to speak for an entire gender, there.

Women who rather cover up, are labeled and shamed as being nothing but puritanical sex hating prudes. Often, by those who think showing skin is somehow "pushing boundaries". But mainly by those who think women's only role is to get men off. Just a reminder.

"Pushing boundaries" in a medium where everybody else is doing it? Yeah right, lol. Hate to break it, but the comic book artists don't give two shits about some rose-coloured SJ BS about "pushing boundaries" and fighting puritanism; they only care about the fanboys' dicks satisfaction.

Yeah, I like how women can apparently can only be empowered and comfortable with their sexuality by wearing bikini-wear when all the dudes are fully covered. Because they sure as hell can't be empowered by having GODDAMN SUPERPOWERS.

[personal profile] blunderbuss 2013-06-30 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Right, that's exactly what the comic book creators were thinking when they made these scantly-clad women who are constantly posed in cheesy, spine-twisting ways and wearing clothes that are utterly impractical for what they do. They just wanted to empower women! Of course! Every time a panel is closed-in on a woman's nearly-bare ass, they're striking a blow for feminism!

Please. You're utterly missing the fact that yeah, women are called sluts for wearing skimpy clothes, but guys also WANT them to dress that way for their personal enjoyment. The standards for women's sexuality are all over the place and you're extremely naive if you dislike one side and but praise the other. These comic book ladies are dressed for the sake of T & A, and you're just encouraging them with this 'empowerment' bullshit. Women can be sexually empowered without being objectified, kthx.
