I liked it just fine as a movie... but hated it as a Superman movie... if that makes sense.

he was a white Hancock. That's how I'm going to view the movie. Hancock remade with a white guy instead of Will Smith.

It does make sense. I've heard several people say the movie isn't that bad if you could forget it was Superman. But you can't, and they failed to grasp what Superman is about. Of course, if you don't care about Superman or comics, or if you have a different take on Superman, that doesn't matter.

A bit unrelated, but I'm shocked I've seen people complain about why Superman doesn't kill the villain right away... Which is really not Superman at all. But I guess outside of comic logic, it would make sense for a regular action movie.

Maybe that's why I liked it. Superman was always just one of those superheroes that annoyed me a bit and I found a lot of the canon to be a bit cheesy/cliché whatever. I actually liked that they tossed out all of the thing that annoyed me about Superman, but I guess that's why some people hate it.

See, I actually found that different parts of the movie harkened back to different tacks the comics have taken over the decades and felt that it did a very interesting way of tying together a lot of the different people Superman has been portrayed as.

It definately wasn't a Superman who has been portrayed in movies yet, but I certainly felt that as long as you're looking at the comics over the last 4+ decades, this was a very good Superman movie.

That's pretty much how I feel about the World War Z movie.
