Secret 4
My musical tastes vary according to who I talk with...
When I'm with my rap-loving sisters and cousins, I agree that metal and visual kei sounds like unmelodic screaming/noise.
When I'm with my visual kei friends, I claim that Japanese boysbands suck and are untalented.
When I'm with my Japanese boysbands-loving friends, I say that Western pop is boring, unlike the Japanese one...
When I'm with my Directioners and Beliebers classmates, I agree that old-time bands suck in comparison to One Direction and Justin Bieber.
When I'm with my Beatles and other "old bands"-loving friends, I tell them that modern music definitely can't compare to the old one.
When I'm with my parents and older acquaintances, I say that all kind of rap music is crap that should not even count as music...
I feel like a total hypocrite, and like I'm afraid to show my own tastes... I actually like pretty much all the above music, and it makes me feel weird... I never let anyone browse through my iPod...
Notes
Visual kei ("visual style" or "visual system") is a movement among Japanese musicians, that is characterized by the use of varying levels of make-up, elaborate hair styles and flamboyant costumes, often, but not always, coupled with androgynous aesthetics. Some sources think that visual kei refers to a music genre, with its sound usually related to glam rock, punk rock and heavy metal. However, this is contradictory to the fact that visual kei acts play various genres, including those unrelated to rock such as electronic, pop, etc. Other sources, including members of the movement themselves, state that it is not a music genre and that the fashion and participation in the related subculture is what exemplifies the use of the term.
