Oh my, I was not aware of that. I assumed that families are formed by a state sanctioned lottery and consist of two adults and a goldfish.

Underage children may not have a choice, but spouses, who have chosen each other, can take a divorce and grown children can cut all contact with their relatives, if they want to. All the dysfunctional families that I've known in real life have broken up sooner or later, so yes, at some point you can choose your family.

Well, you mentioned "Married with Children", so I assumed you were talking about families that had actual kids. Sorry if that's not what you were referring to, but your comment sure sounded like it.
