Even then, non-grown kids have options. Kids can runaway, go to a boarding school, go live with another family member, demand legal independence, and so forth. The OP was annoyed that people in shows NEVER look into alternate options and just suffer staying with their families.

I suppose that makes sense. I was just angry at the OP for dismissing the idea of putting up with a difficult family life when those things aren't options at all for a lot of people and most fictional depictions don't portray conditions as being that extreme.

However, I don't see anything in the OP's comment saying "why doesn't anyone ever try to get out rather than putting up with them?" I only see "these people should all obviously try to magically escape their families because they don't get along". So while my comment was overly rude and I'm sorry for that, I don't see what part of the OP's comment was supposed to imply the former rather than the latter.
