(Anonymous) 2013-07-12 03:37 am (UTC)(link)Given the vast changes made between each adaptation, any influence their genders have on their dynamic is going to be indistinguishable from whatever differences would have existed due to changes in adaptation alone.
For instance, in Elementary Watson is Sherlock's sober companion, not just his roommate. This is a different power dynamic right off the bat. Joan cannot just follow Sherlock's lead the what Watson does is *some* other adaptations.
And frankly, I've watched the whole first season and really, I don't think the dynamic is affected all that much. Obviously, there are some new areas opened up, but overall their genders aren't a big deal.
