Re: Older PC video game recs for non-gaming laptop?
First off, if you aren't aware of the various digital options, there are a lot of ways to get games cheaply. GoG was already mentioned, which is great for older games, but Steam is the big one (summer sale going on right now!!) and greenmangaming is also good. Amazon's doing great with digital sales, too!
For single-player replayability, I really like the Binding of Isaac. It's $2.50 on Steam right now, so it's not a big commitment. But it's a really fun indie game. It's slightly gore-y, but it's in a VERY cartoon-y style, the violence isn't against realistic people.
One of my favorite games is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. I don't know if you like Star Wars, but I know this game is liked by a lot of people who don't care about the franchise. It's a really great roleplaying game that holds up to the test of time.

If you haven't heard of it, check out Humble Bundles, as well as the rest of the indie gaming scene. There are a lot of games that are indie games that are REALLY great, but aren't publicized that much.
OH, FTL is another good game, if you want to feel like a spaceship captain. It's currently $2.50 on Steam, and I've gotten a lot out of it.
