Re: Older PC video game recs for non-gaming laptop?

Until I got a new computer, I primarily gamed on a fairly similar non-gaming laptop. Actually, you may be surprised by what you can get your computer to play.

First off, if you aren't aware of the various digital options, there are a lot of ways to get games cheaply. GoG was already mentioned, which is great for older games, but Steam is the big one (summer sale going on right now!!) and greenmangaming is also good. Amazon's doing great with digital sales, too!

For single-player replayability, I really like the Binding of Isaac. It's $2.50 on Steam right now, so it's not a big commitment. But it's a really fun indie game. It's slightly gore-y, but it's in a VERY cartoon-y style, the violence isn't against realistic people.

One of my favorite games is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. I don't know if you like Star Wars, but I know this game is liked by a lot of people who don't care about the franchise. It's a really great roleplaying game that holds up to the test of time.

Will always second KOTOR. Always. (The second game is good too, though the ending is ridiculous and frustrating and the game is kinda unfinished. It even feels unfinished. Still, if you can look past its flaws it's a pretty fun game with some good characters and an interesting story. It's worth a shot imo.)

I've yet to play KOTOR 2, though I have it in my steam library (I want to replay KOTOR THEN play KOTOR 2). I THINK there's a mod that fixes some of the flaws now.

There is! I haven't tried it yet but it also restores some of the game content so it sounds pretty awesome. If OP decides to try the games they should def download the mod for KOTOR 2 before playing it.

The Steam sale is the reason I'm frustrated and looking for older games at the moment, but I hadn't heard of greenmangaming or considered Amazon, thanks, and both of those games look cool, so I'll probably end up buying them both, ta :)

Ohh, sure, no worries.

If you haven't heard of it, check out Humble Bundles, as well as the rest of the indie gaming scene. There are a lot of games that are indie games that are REALLY great, but aren't publicized that much.

OH, FTL is another good game, if you want to feel like a spaceship captain. It's currently $2.50 on Steam, and I've gotten a lot out of it.
