Re: Trayvon Martin Case:WTF

(Anonymous) 2013-07-13 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
It was part of his lifestyle and train of thought. He got into fights, he stole things, he sold drugs. He wasn't the innocent child looking for skittles. He went after Zimmerman because he felt it was in his right to jump him, because that is part of that lifestyle. Zimmerman followed him and asked why he was there. Jumping someone who was clearly not your physical equal* and beating the hell out of him is not a warranted reaction to being followed.

He was shorter and slightly overweight. And that's ignoring the fact he had ample time to run home, but instead decided to fight.

Riiiiiiiiiight.

First off, HE WAS INNOCENT. He wasn't doing anything wrong when he was walking home and wasn't doing the things that Zimmerman was accusing him of doing. At the time he really was an innocent person getting skittles.

The fact that he'd done some shit before doesn't change that. Even people with a history of crime and wrongdoing can be an innocent victim in a crime. Innocent does not mean 'a perfect cherub who has done nothing wrong ever' but 'did nothing to provoke/deserve a crime commited against them'. Otherwise it'd be open season on anyone with a criminal record.

And 'part of his lifestyle', are you fucking serious. Apparently having pot gives you the mindset of a hardened criminal (which again means you're not innocent and it's cool to shoot you).

THANK YOU.

I don't get why people are too stupid to figure this out.

Got into fights, stole things, drugs - you say that like that's the most horrifying scandalous thing ever and everyone who does that is a hardened criminal. How sheltered are you? MOST teenagers have done at least one of those things. That doesn't mean they have some kind of dangerous lifestyle and won't grow out of it. That doesn't make them horrible people who will beat up strangers without being provoked.

And not his physical equal, are you kidding me?? You know that overweight people have more total muscle than slim people, right?? And that it's harder to throw an overweight man off-balance. Plus, Zimmerman is a grown-man and Trayvon was a teenage boy.

But hey, while we're talking about lifestyle, let's not forget the fact that Zimmerman is accused of molesting at least two girls and grew up in an openly racist family: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/16/george-zimmerman_n_1676729.html
