I happen to prefer top!Arthur (Inception), bottom!Arthur (Merlin), and bottom!Derek (Teen Wolf). I couldn't care less that some people in fandom will naturally prefer to reverse the sex roles for those three characters. What I care about is that 90+% of fandom prefers to reverse their sex roles, which leaves me with very little fic to scratch those particular itches of mine.
Relatedly, I hate that whenever there's a fandom-wide consensus regarding who tops and bottoms, it becomes even less common than it otherwise would be for the characters in question to discuss their sexual preferences. Unless the characters are in an established relationship and/or are psychic, they can't just magically know that Character A will want to bottom or that Character B will want to top. I'll read e.g. well-written top!Derek fic with great pleasure if he and his partner actually negotiate their sexual encounter. If they don't, then on my cranky days I'll backbutton and on my slightly less cranky days I'll skim the sex scenes and do my best to enjoy the rest of the fic (and backbutton if there isn't enough non-smutty content to hold my interest).
