I think if it's not a canon couple (or you don't see into their sexual habits) you really can't know who would bottom and who would top (or if they switch). So when you go into a fandom where one character is written to be bottoming 95% of the time you have to assume it was done because of some stereotype the writers have about personality/physical traits applying to what they would like in bed. Which in real life personality/physical traits are not so consistently reflective of what someone would like in bed. That's what I find unrealistic, that there's not more variety or opinions on what would go down, because people can be unpredictable, and characters should have that too.
