(Anonymous) 2013-07-14 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)I don't think so. The person they're talking about is creating bad situations for themselves. Feeling vindicated about it when that person has hurt you doesn't make you a bad person (general you, obviously).

I still get a nasty vibe from anyone who delights in another's misery so easily.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-15 01:08 am (UTC)(link)Nothing about it is easy. The whole thing is complicated and messy and involves a lot of painful history that had an extreme negative effect on many people's lives. Everyone but the person behind it all. So yeah, I'm glad that for once they're getting some of that back through their own doing. And what they're getting back is nothing compared to what they did to me and many others. They aren't miserable. They're having some troubles in their life as a consequence of some more truly awful stuff they're trying to do to others. I'm glad it backfired this time.

That seems a lot more specific than what's been said so far tbh. I still don't really know details but if it's a sort of getting a taste of their own medicine thing then I can get behind that. Some people need perspective really fucking badly.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-15 01:27 am (UTC)(link)Yes, it is this exactly. Sorry, I know the term but it isn't a common one where I live. That was what I meant by "things go wrong for them because of stuff they say or do" in my original comment. I need to brush up on my English :)
I can just see where OP is coming from. Fandom is a mostly harmless place but it isn't harmless. And there have been more than a couple instances in fandom that have made mainstream news because of things someone did in fandom that hurt others. There are many more instances that don't get mainstream media attention of people doing truly awful stuff and there's rarely any recourse for the victims. So it never surprises me when others are glad about someone getting a taste of their own medicine and I don't judge these people harshly. I'm more likely to wonder what the other person did to cause such a reaction because usually there is a reason beyond someone just getting pleasure from someone else's misery.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-15 01:03 am (UTC)(link)I really don't care what you or anyone else thinks about it. This person made my life a living hell for a while as well as the lives of many of my loved ones. To hear that they haven't changed at all but their behavior is now causing them problems makes me feel good. There aren't in any danger from my feelings and I don't wish them bodily harm or serious emotional distress. It's just nice to know there is a little justice in the universe sometimes. If they can learn from this and change, all the better. But honestly, I doubt that will happen. Some people are just rotten to the core and do nothing but spread misery. I'm glad they're finally getting some in return.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-15 07:48 am (UTC)(link)As far as I'm concerned, that's not even in the same ballpark as wishing ill to come upon someone - it's more like wanting their (bad) actions to have consequences. And then, who knows, they may actually learn something from that.
