So you want a unnecessary and probably inferior remake of something you love?

O-kayyyyy

To be fair the Japanese aren't very good at making blockbuster movies. Smaller budgets, for one thing

That doesn't mean the american version will actually be good. Just that it will look good.

CG ain't gonna be cheap and all the props can look like they can actually work. Not saying that big budget should be a priority over the script or acting, but movies are a visual medium so it makes sense that looks will play an important part. For a movie that is so heavily involved with creating a world, I would say good looks would be of equal importance to a good story.

is that a fact?

Japan is good a making anime. Big budget live sci-fi action films? Nope. It's not their forte.

Truly. I gave Space Battleship Yamato so much slack for sheer nostalgia factor, and it looked like a SyFy original movie. Did they run out of money halfway through the film?

This. I am not a friend of Japanese movies or tv shows overall...
I don't think I will spend money to watch this movie at cinema. Might rent the DVD later.

idk, when I think of the Japanese live-action movie, all I can think of is that we'll see a Japanese guy named "Eren Jäger" :| And a Japanese guy called "Jean Kirschtein"... shall I continue? Mikasa would be the only one who'd fit.

A Hollywood adaptation would be more believable in that respect. If a story is set somewhere in Europe, then it's a bit weird to only have Japanese actors playing the characters.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-19 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Because Hollywood is totally (in) Europe.

I'd much rather have a joint effort of international studios.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-19 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
You don't seriously believe Hollywood films nowadays only cast American actors, or that international talents wouldn't kill for a chance to be a part of a major studio production, do you? Hell, I just got back from a "Hollywood blockbuster" in which none of the American characters seemed to be played by actual Americans.

And I said that where exactly in my comment? But with a Hollywood adaptation, there would be caucasian actors in the respective roles.

A UK or France made movie would be okay too, I guess, but I'm not sure about the budget. I hope you're not thinking about having the movie made in Germany or Austria, because... yeah... that wouldn't be any better (that is coming from an Austrian).

(Anonymous) 2013-07-20 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
oh please won't someone think of the poor caucasian dudes looking for work in hollywood

Are you actually aware of the fact that most of the characters in "Attack on Titan" are supposed to be European/Caucasian? That's the setting of the story. Most of them have German, French or Nordic names (except for the few that have nonsense names).

If it was set somewhere else and had, for example, a predominantly black cast, then I would find it just as wrong casting only white people for the characters.

I know some of you anon trolls wait for any chance to jump comments, but this is just getting ridiculous and you know it.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-20 10:22 am (UTC)(link)
Consider that the anime made a point about how rare Mikasa is for being half Asian, yup.

Exactly this.

I'm always for adapting something as faithfully as possible. I wish the M.Night Shyamalan version of "the last airbender" had been that, but oh well :/ There was so much wrong there... I do sometimes hope someone else tries to adapt it once more, but does so correctly. There should be NO white people in TLA. At all.
