...Why? Do you just prefer movies with English-speaking actors, or do you enjoy the wank that such things bring, or something else entirely?

I don't care for remakes myself, and I'm currently dreading the coming Hollywood version of a series that I love, so I'm just curious!

Not OP, but I'd prefer a movie where they're speaking German. Hollywood is slightly (although not much) more likely to do that than Japan.

All Japanese SnK doesn't make much sense, and neither does all American.

Japan is good a making anime. Big budget live sci-fi action films? Nope. It's not their forte.

idk, when I think of the Japanese live-action movie, all I can think of is that we'll see a Japanese guy named "Eren Jäger" :| And a Japanese guy called "Jean Kirschtein"... shall I continue? Mikasa would be the only one who'd fit.

A Hollywood adaptation would be more believable in that respect. If a story is set somewhere in Europe, then it's a bit weird to only have Japanese actors playing the characters.

The only reason I look forward to the live action adaptation is because I know if it enjoys some modicum of success in Japan, there will inevitably be a Hollywood remake.

I tend to hate remakes. There are rare occasions where the stars line up correctly and we get competent people who give a rather faithful adaptation to the original source material, but most times, we get money grubbing hacks who just want to throw in as many genre cliches as possible to cash in on an easy check.

But yeah, do with that what you will if Hollywood picks this up.

PS. It's not just Hollywood that screws up adaptations so I don't mean just Hollywood.

There is no way the live action adaptation of this will be any good, let alone a Hollywood remake. Well I guess if the special effects budget is big enough you could just watch the action.

I think I don't want a Hollywood version, mostly because I'm convinced that they would do something stupid like having the Colossal Titan as the big bad and the evil leader of the Titans who wants to destroy humanity because he's so evil, and I would hate it. I don't want them to ruin my favourite character.

TBH this is one of the things I'm dreading even in the Japanese movie itself. Given the manga itself hasn't fully revealed why the villains are doing what they're doing I'm wary that the movie adaptation will mangle their characterisations and give them bullshit motives.

I'm already tired of this show being EVERYWHERE. I'm trying to enjoy it (I'm a few eps in, it's pretty dull so far), but it's like the Supernatural of the anime world, every goddamn thing on earth is related back to it online

I want a Hollywood version so much too. The special effects would be amazing. I suspect the Japanese live action version will disappoint me there.

Nooo. It's bad enough that I can't avoid this snorefest online. If it got a Hollywood movie, I wouldn't be able to avoid it offline either.

Although at the very least the remake might make Eren more tolerable.

...Wouldn't that be more a reason not to look forward to the live action? Though issues with Hollywood remakes aside, I'm doubtful the Japanese movie will be any good either. That's a heck of a lot of story to fit into a single movie, and the manga's still ongoing to boot. I do not see this ending well.

No matter how good or bad it looks I'll probably watch it anyways, lol.

Honestly, I kind of agree. I mean, the difference between the budgets it would get aside, the writer has plainly set this some kind of alter!Europe, and made explicit that the characters are overwhelmingly white by calling attention to the fact that the one who isn't seems to be the only one of her race left. Having a bunch of Japanese actors play the parts would be awkward, and having them play the parts in whiteface would be super awkward.

Also, one of the deepest flaws in both the anime and the manga is the pacing, and that would necessarily be rectified in film format. Far from being one of those series where I'd wonder how they were ever going to fit "all that" into a 2 hour runtime, I think what we've seen in the manga so far would be better presented in a 2 hour runtime (the anime so far could be cleanly presented in about 20-30 minutes, frankly).

I only really hate US remakes of other countries' crime/action movies. I'm not sure I've actually watched a SciFi remake so far. In SNK's case, it might make sense because at least the whole 'Mikasa is the last oriental person' wouldn't be so weirdly, weirdly subverted in an all Japanese cast. But I have little faith in US remakes.
