Yanno OP sometimes I think everyone is doing this?

...I may just be too cynical when it comes to the Internet and its culture. I mean this: I could tell stories that would curl your ears (tho' I generally tend to look for the gallows humour in the events of my past, whenever I think of them myself) and have the SJWs falling all over themselves with their crocodile tears...but it would just be pointless, and a slimy grab for attention, that I would sooner stuff both of my feet down my throat, than engage in.

TL;DR; OP your friends can be summed up in one simple phrase: First World Problems.

I dunno if everyone's doing it, but it does seem safe to say that there is a percentage of the internet that is either overreacting to problems, or flat out lying. No telling how big that percentage is though, and I don't feel comfortable calling someone a liar without any proof.

Yeah, it makes people whom actually do have real problems feel that we have to justify or prove that it is real.

I am one of those naive people whom believe whatever people say until proven otherwise, seems to work better than thinking everyone lies.
