I used to dislike Flora but she's my homegirl now.

a certain male protagonistother charactersnot only that but her sudden appearance in the series was kinda an asspull because of how significant she was to
Laytonthe story, yet she was never mentioned before the Unwound Future. It just left a bad taste in my mouth; I don't dislike her but I dislike the concept behind her character. I really think the writers could have done better.(and thank you <3)

(Anonymous) 2013-07-20 12:53 am (UTC)(link)Layton xDthe rest of the cast. I feel like what we know of her is filtered so much through the lenses of men--Layton, Don Paolo, and Dimitri, all three of whom had feelings for her--that we don't really see her being, well, an awesome person in her own right, at least not until the very end. Also, I can usually suspend my disbelief enough when characters with little to no foreshadowing are introduced having a crucial tie to an already existing character, but I agree that it's not particularly good writing in general. There was the matter of Layton's hat and Don Paolo's seemingly unfounded vendetta with him, but those didn't really need to be explained. And the writers still probably could have exhibited that sort of
emotional capacitydepth our professor in a different, more consistent way.I will admit, though, that I prefer Layton not explicitly thinking of Claire in the first two games, since it shows, however retroactively, that although he loved/loves her and was saddened by her death/hasn't fully moved on, he's still able to act the part of the perfect gentleman (at least until, y'know, she dies again). c:
(and I will leave my cravat on~)
