I'll admit I was in rant mode when I created this, but nope, not a troll. I just really can't stand Hermione. She's hands down my least favorite character in HP. If one of the Trio should've died over the course of the series, I wish it had been Hermione in Malfoy Manor, though any other time would've been fine too. The teen Umbridge comparison, granted, is overboard in the sense that Umbridge is clearly prejudiced against other creatures while Hermione does have her (highly condescending, never-mind-what-you-want-I-know-what's-best-for-you) house-elf crusades. But I doubt a teenage Umbridge had the power to make her fellow students write lines with blood quills either, yet Hermione still manages to compensate by hexing permanent, prominent Sneak pimples into other kids' faces for breaking her rules. And I'm sorry, between that and attacking Ron with birds so that he's scarred all up his arms, locking Rita Skeeter in a glass jar for weeks on end and then blackmailing her into working for them, I assume you haven't read the books to wonder about the abuse charge. The hypocrisy thing? Breaking rules is horrible, unless she's the one breaking them. The ONLY one. Literally the only times she doesn't go up Ron's or Harry's ass for breaking rules is when they're doing it on her orders (the Polyjuice fiasco in CoS, the DA). And that time in HBP where she hexed McLaggen so Ron would get on the team and then jumps all over Harry for cheating with the Felix potion to help Ron? Ugh. I'm perfectly aware that many of these are flaws the other male characters carry in spades, but you know what? They get fucking called on it all the time. She never does. Huge difference.

Oh, hell, I forgot about the Rita Skeeter thing.

And I want to be clear--I never wanted any of the Trio dead, and normally I like tricky, devious characters. I love Artemis Fowl and other folks like that. But there's something unsettling about how all of Hermione's actions, including kidnapping and blackmail, are portrayed as Right.

At least when Harry Dresden does something awful because the It Was The Best Option and The End Justifies The Mean, the story actually acknowledges that he's doing an Awful Thing.

Her hypocrisy was another big thing. Most trickster characters are self-aware enough to avoid being hypocrites.

Why don't you write fanfic? Hermione could be held captive by Bellatrix and instead of helping her, Harry and Ron yell at her for being bossy and hypocritical, Rita Apparates to tell Hermione she's a wicked abusive bitch, and for the money shot, Marietta appears with SNEAK still on her face to kill Hermione. Everyone applauds Marietta, Marietta says "She was just like Umbridge, honestly" and gets awarded a trophy, and she replaces Hermione in the trio.

Post that on AO3 and let me know how it goes.

There are TONS of Hermione-bashing fics around along these lines for OP to find if they want, why assume that's what this is about? People hate on Harry or Ron, on Draco or Snape, on Dumbledore/Ginny/Weasleys all the time for their very present flaws, and Hermione's got them too. For christsakes, take a pill if it bothers you that much seeing her get it.

The Rita Skeeter thing was SO CREEPY. I know JKR hates journalists but really.
