I'm sorry, OP. That guy was an idiot, and you should just try to forget about it. Anyone who can't respect your likes doesn't deserve you. Wishbone is great, and you have lovely reasons for loving the series. Keep being awesome!

I live in a house where, at last count, we have at least four or five different DVD sets of children's shows from the late 80s/early 90s. We have more than that in VHS. It is not abnormal for someone to be at somewhere with used DVDs/VHSes and come home with another series.

Between us, I legitimately cannot remember how many works of fic have been committed in said children's shows.

Seriously, this guy was an asshole. You're going to be far, far better without him. Really.

Aw, OP. Don't worry about being alone or having to hide the things you love (never, EVER do that). I know it's a cliche, but trust me - there is someone out there who will look at your Wishbone set (or other similar things), and they'll be like, "hey - what's this? awwwww!" And they will love you for your sweet geekiness and sentimentality. That person does exist. Really. They may not be perfect, but no one is.

This series means a lot to me. It helped keep my love of reading alive, and my mom got me the set as a gift. It hurt that this was seen as abnormal. It makes me scared that my likes - subtle as they are - are going to keep me alone. That, or I'll have to keep everything I love hidden the rest of my life.

Loving a tv show is not going to keep you alone for the rest of your life. This show will not blip on someone's 'abnormal' radar. Maybe someone's 'slightly unusual' radar at the most. If anyone cares about you liking this show enough to give you grief about it it's because they're a pretentious and insecure ass.

What an asshole. My husband and daughter recently came home from stopping at a random garage sale being run by his old high school. They were so excited to bring me a Wishbone board game they'd found, even though neither of them have seen the show, they both know I love it. (And now that I realize it's out on DVD...I know what I'm asking for for Christmas.)

The right guy is out there, OP, sometimes you just have to weed through a few jerks first. My husband may not share all of my interests, and he may roll his eyes when he comes upstairs and Hercules the Legendary Journeys is on, but he still buys me random crap he knows I will love.

I never watched Wishbone, but it sounds like a pretty neat show, actually. People who make you feel that way about your interests are the ones with issues and something to hide - not just saying that, I'm serious, that's just petty and mean. Besides, I liked tons of books and shows as a kid/teen that apparently weren't "cool" - I can't find too many people who will admit to having watched Full House, for instance. Still not ashamed to say I loved it.

As an anon above said, you dodged a bullet. The only people you're keeping away by being open about your interests are assholes and that seems like a good deal to me.

Because tell me, would you truly be happy with someone who values you and what you love so little that they would be openly disdainful about it should they find out? What kind of relationship is that? It sounds horrible.
