Welcome to my life as an equestrian, one, its rarely portrayed accurately, two, rarely do they show how to do it safely. Then I get an influx of greenhorns who want me to teach them to jump Olympic level in a matter of weeks.

Drives me INSANE

I've been riding (very casually) almost all my life. My mom was a big horse person, and while I was never as into it as she is, I still enjoy it. I took a pretty nasty fall a few years ago (was riding bareback on my still kind-of-skittish young horse, and my dad came running out of the bushes running yelling like a mad-man), and have been nervous to even gallop. Granted, I do mostly Western style riding, but I've never jumped and I don't think I'd be up for it if I did. =S

Are you okay? No residual injuries? :(

The newbies just lack such common sense, like, this animal outweighs you by 1000lb, don't try to fight it, you won't win.

Maybe if you take a couple of lessons your confidence will come back?

Sidenote, it's especially funny because I'm a dressage trainer. I do cavaletti work for cross training, and jump small things, but it's not my specialty. So, it's always good for a laugh when they come. LOL!

A-Okay. I'm actually not sure if I had any injuries at the time (other than getting winded pretty bad) or if it was more the shock of falling for the first time in my actual memory (Guess mom put me on a horse when I was two and I kind of fell off, but other than that, it had been the only time I fell in about 13 years or so).

I was thinking riding lessons might be nice sometimes, though. =)

My mom though, a couple years ago, had a pretty bad fall when she was barrel racing though, and ended up seperating her shoulder. Lucky for her, I'm a massage therapist, so I work on it when it starts getting sore, but here we are like, four years later, with it still bothering her. =(

"my dad came running out of the bushes yelling like a mad-man"

Oh man, what was he thinking? :/ I'm sorry to hear you fell.
Some people have no clue how to act around certain animals. Reminds me a bit of one of my uncles who thought it was wise to "test" the abilities of my dog who is trained to guard our garden. My uncle just hopped over the fence one night and my dog was so quickly on top of him, he couldn't even count to three. Thankfully he wasn't injured since my dog recognized it was him as soon as he jumped him.

I've actually never figured out exactly what he was thinking. =/

But yikes, I feel like that could have ended very badly!
