Isn't that the point of headcanons within fandom? To imagine things that aren't likely to happen in the show.

fandoms where the canon material is the sparsest as far as details of characters' daily lives go are the ones with the most headcanon though, because... well, because there's not enough canon to go around. So you have to make things up.

idgi why would they have headcanon if there was lots of canon?

Because there's not much else to do while waiting for a new chapter than create bullshit that we can all role in like happy mindless dogs.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-01 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that's common in fandoms serious/intense/depressing series because we want the characters to have a break and be happy, even if it's just in our headcanons.

That would explain certain aspects of the Invader Zim fandom . . .

(Anonymous) 2013-08-02 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
na

What's so depressing about the original Invader Zim cartoon?
Haven't seen it for years but wasn't it rather goofy and random most of the time?

yep, we just to see a little moment of happiness in their chaotic lives were everyday is a struggle for survival

(Anonymous) 2013-08-02 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, this all the way. That's why the Silent Hill fandom is full of silly art and crackfics. We need a break from sobbing into our game controllers.

I think... Attack on Titan? :/

(Anonymous) 2013-08-02 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. That's Kawaii Titan.

Why? Because this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7_Wb8nVNQY

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-02 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the "Kawaii Titan" from the anime "Shingeki no Kyojin" or "Attack on Titan". It is a male humanoid giant creature with dark black hair reaching its chin, lightly tanned skin and disproportionaly huge anime style eyes. It is leaning around a wall corner to look down at something.]

As much as I like this series, I don't understand why it has such a ... fandomy fandom. I mean, jeez, they are constantly fighting and escaping being eaten, I doubt they have such free time for whatever goes on in people's headcanons, and most of the potential shipping is seriously disturbed obsessive behaviour.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-02 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
I think that Titan is female, actually, considering Sasha addressed it as "ma'am," at least in the subtitles.

Because we're all pretending that the characters aren't dying regularly so we gay-ship them to hell and back even though there is not even the slightest romantic notion in the show, at all. Heck, even the guy who is dead is still being gay-shipped to his other half in his hauntingly half-corporeal form. It makes the show hurt less, anon.
starphotographs: This field is just more space for me to ramble and will never be used correctly. I am okay with this! (Ginko (default))

[personal profile] starphotographs 2013-08-02 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Because... That's... What... Fandoms... Do?

People in action-oriented shows have always been primarily concerned with saving their asses and lacking in time to just dick around. And yet, fans of action shows have always had headcanons. It's just a thing.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-02 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Because the homestucks needed something else to ruin. That's why.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-02 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, shippers gonna ship. I'm more concerned by the ridiculous popularity of Levi and Levi/Eren. I thought I understood how fandoms and shipping worked at this point but that one took me completely by surprise.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-02 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Someone's trying to piss on everyone else's fun. That's cool.

When you see an anime that takes itself way too seriously

(Anonymous) 2013-08-02 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
You can't help but take it less seriously.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-02 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously disturbed obsessive behavior.

Fandom.

Disapproving Moe Titan is the best possible picture choice.
