I wrote a really popular story. It still gets a lot of hits and comments, even though it wrapped up over a year ago. I promised a sequel. I want to write it, but I'm terrified of the readers. The fandom has gotten so much meaner and it seems like everyone considers this ship sunk. I hate that I haven't written it yet but I'm more worried now I never will. I'm really sorry, readers.
Don't worry about it! :)

(Anonymous) 2013-08-04 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)if you want to write it, write it? just because the ship is canonically never going to be canon doesn't mean the fandom can't enjoy the ship and continue doing fanwork for it. (tho imho you shouldn't be shipping it at all unless you acknowledge how disturbing and unhealthy the relationship would be but w/e)
the only problem about the entire thing were the entitled asshat shippers who acted personally victimized because their crack ship was sunk.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-04 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)canon ship-sinking does not usually destroy a ship's fandom
so people will most likely welcome your fic
heck, if other writers lose interest or something you've got more readers now, thirsty for fic of their ship

If they don't want to write because of the pressure I understand, but canon doesn't have to be a factor.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-04 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)Anyway, I know that it's easier said than done, but...try not to focus on the shit that you get. Focus instead on the responses that you get from people who dig what you've done. In any fandom, when you write for a particular ship, you're bound to get detractors. You've got to do your best to shrug them off and to keep doing what makes you happy. A lot of asshole out there would like fandom to be a hive mind, but it isn't and it shouldn't be.

Or are we talking about the kinds of readers that wouldn't notice those?
