Do it anyway, drink their tears.

Also some people will love it I'm sure. I'm not one of those people, but I don't take it personally when other people have fun in their own way.

+1

For as many people who are "sick of it" there are people who still love those series and love crossovers.

Seriously OP, don't let fandom dictate what you post because there are always going to be assholes who think they can run other people's lives. If someone is sick of it they don't have to look at it.

I don't write fic but I draw fanart and I draw WHAT I LIKE. It's my spare time, no one can tell me what to do with it.

Everyone hates crossovers? Apparently I am not part of everyone.

Write what you want OP, plenty of people love crossovers. For some fandoms I have trouble finding fic that isn't crossovers.

...Also it's really weird to me that people in MCU hate crossovers because Avengers is a crossover isn't it?

Do it! I'll read almost anything if it has Agent Coulson.

Who is this everybody of which you speak? I for one very much enjoy a good crossover. I mean, I partake in an annual crossover fic exchange, for crying out loud.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-04 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah dude, first of all, not everyone hates crossovers. I love crossovers! When they're well done, etc, etc.

And not everyone is sick of those fandoms! People still in those fandoms are probably not totally sick of them.

And honestly I'd rather read that fic than see it done as a gif set, but that's neither here nor there. Post it!

I love crossovers when they're done well and particularly inspired (like there's a solid idea behind the reason for combining the two canons, or just an awesome crossover pairing...just give me something with more of a story than a gifset on Tumblr). But I guess the trendiness of it has produced a lot of crap crossovers that would turn people off of them. *sigh*

Do it.

If they don't like it they won't read it. Simple as that.

Enjoy yourself. That's what fandom is for.

[Picture is Phil Coulson from the Marvel movies and Sherlock Holmes from the TV show "Sherlock". Coulson has has light tanned skin and very short dark hair. He is wearing an ear piece and looking kind of worried but confident and dramatic as meteorites fall behind him. Sherlock has short curly dark hair, light gray eyes and light skin. He looks surprised.]

I wrote a crossover, set post-Reichenbach, pre-Thor. Then, I learned that everyone hates crossovers, and is sick of these fandoms. I'm afraid to post it.

Crossovers give me life, anon. I did a fix-it for Coulson that was a crossover and it got more attention that anything else I've ever done. Be proud of it, post it, enjoy it. I guarantee there will be an audience and they will be glad of new fic.

Gee, lately my crossovers are the stuff getting the most comments/hits/kudos.

Don't know what universe you're in, anon, but in mine, crossovers are gold.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-04 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Not everybody hates crossovers, OP.

I think it's just people deciding that they need to write a crossover, and they don't bother with a plot or accurate character portrayals. They're just like..."ALL MY PAIRINGS ARE TOGETHER. my favorite character is super popular and koool!!!" and it's just irritating.

It's not crossovers people hate, it's crossovers where the canons that get crossed are not easily crossed and whoever is doing the cross is bad at explaining how they fit together.

I personally think of all the SuperWhoLock-whatever juggernaut, Sherlock crosses easily with any one other fandom, because it's a modern day settling with no fantasy or sci-fi elements. Such settling are far easier to cross with sci-fi or fantasy, because half the story is how the characters of the nonsci-fi/fantasy settling react to the sci-fi/fantasy one.

It's when you cross sci-fi and fantasy things get messy, as usually the sci-fi setting views the unusual elements from a scientific POV, while a fantasy settling view them as magic.

(For the record, out of SuperWhoLock, I feel the weak point is trying to cross SPN and Doctor Who, because SPN has magic, monsters, angels and demons, while Doctor has had things that look like those but can be explained by science.)

I must be in the minority because I freaking love crossovers, enjoy both of those, and would read the hell out of it.

The last couple posts about crossovers I've seen have been universally trashing them.

Maybe I'll post it on here if people are actually interested.

Remember, the only reason a lot of people are sick of it is because it's come across their attention so often. And it comes across their attention because a lot of people love it and make it. You can be one of them!
