Do you know what I hate? Ship shaming. I say ship whatever you want to ship and let people do the same. I've also tired of ''lol all supernatural fans are crazies.''

(Anonymous) 2013-08-06 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Ha...haha. SPN fans shame any ship that isn't Dean/Sam, Dean/Cas. Any woman that gets with the pretty boyz and tehhh hawt gayz is slandered, hated on, and ranted about. I mean, really, you're kind of in the wrong fandom if you think they don't shipshame lol

(Anonymous) 2013-08-06 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Except that was my point?

That's what I'm tired of. I'm tired of the ship shaming.

Not everyone does it, of course. There are a few great people in the fandom. It's just that the rude ones are, well, louder. My OTP for Supernatural (which is a het ship) has zero fans and whenever someone says, ''well, they could have been interesting'' they pretty much get shut down with a, ''no, that's het, you must be homophobic. How about you ship Wincest or Destiel instead?''

Though, to be fair, ship shaming isn't just the SPN fans. Teen Wolf fans are getting pretty...rabid.

YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

I can't really tell if this is sarcastic or not, but yeah. In the Teen Wolf fandom if you don't ship Sterek (or maybe Scott/Isaac), you're basically screwed.

Just appreciating the pun.

Really? I must just be lucky steering clear of the crazy, then. (Though I haven't been able to avoid all the crazy over Jennifer. Some serious CALMING THE FUCK DOWN is needed about her, cause it's certainly bringing back some SPN levels of shit-talking-about-a-female-character.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-06 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
to be fair, a lot of spn fans are crazy and it's sad how fat it's spread across the fandom. i ship dean/cas and even i get pretty sick of how seriously some fans take it, to the point where i ended up leaving the fandom for a while.

the really rabid fans are just....ugh. e.g. the ones who go to conventions to ask misha about cas' "true" feelings for dean, the ones who squeal at every possible gay undertone in the show, the ones who write pages-long analyses on how dean and cas are really soul-mates/fucking/destined to be together/etc and how everyone who doesn't agree with them are "delusional", the ones who sent slash fic to the actors, etc.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-06 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
What I find sad is that in my pre-supernatural fandoms, one could write page-long analysis on how A and B were really soul-mates/fucking/destined to be together, and they were taken as simple ship manifestos, and weren't proof that the writer was a 'rabid fan'.

I agree that many spn are rabid and act horribly, but why the hell is writing meta now considered also a show of craziness?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-06 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
+1
lets not confuse people merrily writing meta in their own fandom spaces with the kind of shippers who harass other people. You can hate on an ubiquitous ship all you want, but hate on the first kind of fan and you're just being a dick.
It's pretty trendy to be that kind of dick to SPN fans around here, unfortunately.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-07 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
THIS THIS THIS. I don't see how writing meta and celebrating your ship- because, duh, YOU SHIP IT - and taking a rational approach to what canon has given you can in any way be maligned. But you're right, SPN fans are widely hated throughout fandom, but especially on f!s. Which is not to say there's not crazies. But if now even the meta writers are getting a bad wrap...

(Anonymous) 2013-08-06 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
don't get me wrong, i don't mean analyses are wrong in general. i was referring to the fans who use such analyses as "proof" that their ship is canon so that they can shame people who don't agree with them by calling them blind or delusional idiots.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-06 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not, as long as the meta writer doesn't accuse others of being crazy (or homophobic) if they disagree with the meta.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-06 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
God, this, so much this. I know SPN fandom is dominated by a few major pairings, but I could honestly care less what other people ship - that's their business, you know? I ship Dean/Cas like there's no tomorrow and while I would love for them to be canon, I highly doubt it would ever happen. And I really am cool with whatever else people might want to ship. It's not my cup of tea, but what do I care what they want to do?

And, yes, I'm so freaking sick of the "SPN fans are all crazies!" mentality. I just feel like the fandom gets a bad wrap because the crazies are the most vocal, while most fans I've come across are perfectly normal.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-06 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, here's an experiment for you: Go through Tumblr's 'Castiel' tag and see how much fanfic, meta or fanart you find that ISN'T Destiel. Go ahead. I'll wait. (Well, no, not really.)

But the answer is, not very damn much. It's ANNOYING AS FUCK to those of us who just like Cas as a character, or who like him with someone else. Especially when scenes that revolved around some other character entirely get swiped and turned into yet another Destiel gif. Hello, there's three and a half seasons of material with Cas and Dean actually together, do you really have to hijack pivotal moments of a character who was in a total of six episodes? Or explain why all his interactions with everyone else are really all about Dean?

People can ship whoever they want to ship, and God bless 'em. But can we please try to treat Cas as an individual who's been alive for millions of years and has a family and friends of his own and an incredibly long-ass history and responsibilities and issues that have nothing to do with Dean Winchester?
