Sure it's cheesy but how is that a bad thing even??? I love me some cheese once in a while.

Besides how do you even make an un-cheesy movie about GIANT ROBOTS that punch monsters in the face.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing; as I said, I loved the movie. The cheesiness is part of its charm for me.

I don't know about making un-cheesy movies about giant robots punching monsters in the face, but in this particular case it seems like someone realized that the movie needed scenes that didn't involve giant robots, monsters, or giant robots fighting monsters, and then decided to just douse it in cheesiness to cover the mess that was the rest of the movie.
