I don't think tumblr is killing fandom. I just think it's taking it in a different direction than a lot of other people like.

I think... tumblr is accepting if you find the right people, and obviously you have, but on a whole? I find it to be a very negative space that I kind of skirt around and try to hide from. I stick with the 50 people I follow and rarely venture further.

Yeah, I started clicking on people's names who are "wrong" in a popular text post. Almost all of them are deleted because of the harassment they got.

And it's for stupid stuff too! Like, they gave a different answer to a question or something. Really benign stuff.

But...are you sure they got deleted? Because it is very possible they just changed their username. Tumblr does not have a built in redirect system of any sort and many people change their username all the time, and many of those people do not bother to find a custom theme that will direct anyone who clicks on that username to their current one. (Some people do, but from what I've seen, most don't.)

Depends. Some changed their names. Some were deliberate deletions. (Either way, they were escaping the harassment.) Quite a few left behind messages saying they were sorry or something like that. Trust me; none of the others in the text post who were on the "right" side were changed.

On top of that, I've sometimes seen other people take over an abandoned name and their blogs are full of anons flaming them and them explaining that they're someone else.

Tumblr is not a nice place.
