However, the alternately lackadaisical and feverent attitude of tumblr, combined with the emphasis on repeating ideas over and over (or getting notes) can turn a passionate fan into an obsessive one. It's like a trigger for those with low-self esteem, short attention spans, and addictive personalities (all of which I admit to having shades of at times) in the same way the smell of meat is a trigger to a feral dog. It's not always a reactive situation, but when it is they become mindless raving machines.

What I was going to say is that you can't just read editorials and expect to learn about the world that way, because you become conditioned to accept the opinions of a small group of people as fact, and after a while learn to deny or at least doubt anything that clashes with those opinions, because it goes against your sense of trust and familiarity.
