1. Because Kaiju are fast and ranged weapons endanger the populace. Also several Jagers do have some form of ranged weaponry?

Charging the weapon too long would deplete power and/or overheat the arm. All that energy has to go somewhere.

2. not a plot hole, just stupid politicians. It is very stupid though. It is SUPPPOSED to be stupid.

3. Another EMP would have still knocked them out, but because it was Analog and off at the time, it could be started up since it wasn't damaged by the first EMP. that's why that organ was one of the first things they attacked, they were vulnerable to it.

Obviously they had back up systems/ systems able to eventually reboot. It took them a while. If I remember correctly somebody did give an estimate of when they'd be back up after the first attack.

4. I'll admit I'm reaching on this one but... it's the future. and cities keep getting destroyed. Innovations on infrastructure of roads and buildings to distribute impact and limit damage if shit like this should go down.

5. Boats can survive waves you know. Especially if they are getting as far away from ground zero as they can. But if it makes you feel better, the boat could have been destroyed and we just didn't see it cause the camera was focused on the Robot and the Monster? More of a dangling plot thread then a hole though.

2. every time I think "not even a politician would propose ... nevermind push through something this stupid" ... I open a newspaper, and I remember that dumbass politicians are the rule, not the exception.
